A well packer has a metal seal which seals between the packer mandrel and the casing. The metal seal includes a seal sleeve located on the exterior of the mandrel. The sleeve has an inner wall and an outer wall radially separated by a channel. The inner channel is initially separated from the exterior of the mandrel by a clearance. An energizing ring is sizably mounted to the mandrel for axial movement relative to the mandrel. Initially, the energizing ring will be located at the entrance of the channel. An actuating device moves the energizing ring into the channel, wedging the walls of the seal sleeve apart. The inner wall seals against the mandrel. The outer wall seals against the casing.

A method and apparatus are provided for drilling multiple offshore wells from a single conductor casing string. A guide member is provided for securing to a standard casing string, and running downhole and setting within a lower section of the conductor string. The guide member includes multiple guide bores through which standard casing strings are run. A first one of the standard casing strings i secured into one of the multiple guide bores for lowering the guide member into the lower section of the conductor string. A multibore low pressure wellhead housing is mounted to the conductor string as the guide member is being lowered downhole within the conductor string. Once the guide member is set, the first one of the standard casing strings is released from the guide member and passed downward through the guide member for receiving a drill string and guiding the drill string in drilling a first one of the multiple offshore wells. Then, the first casing string is picked up, without being pulled from within the guide member, for joining with more casing and running further downhole through the guide member to case a first one of the multiple offshore wells. A second casing string is then lowered downhole and through the guide member for guiding the drill string. After a second one of the multiple offshore wells is drilled, the second casing string is then run further downhole, through the guide member, and used to case the second offshore well.

A well completion system utilizes a seal which carries its own load ring. The seal is lowered into the bore of a wellhead housing around a tubular member. The seal carries a split load ring, which once positioned will move outward into engagement with a groove formed in the wellhead housing. A locking assembly will lock the seal to the wellhead housing. The locking assembly has a casing lock ring which will secure to the upper end of a section of casing, if the casing has been cut due to an emergency stuck condition. A tubing hanger lands over the locking assembly. The tubing hanger is retained by an actuating ring and lock ring that are independent of the tubing hanger seal.
