Methods for producing meat analog as well as formulations are disclosed. The novel production method uses a device designed to texturize the product while providing superior heat transfer for cooking. The device includes a helical compression conveyer with internal and external heating sources that delivers a high ratio of surface area for heat transfer to product volume. This results in the device being capable of heating of the emulsion volume as it is moved from the inlet to the outlet of the device to form a meat analog within the device in which the meat analog is formed in multiple segments to result in the meat analog having a defined surface texture.

Methods are provided for designing an oral dog product that is safe and functionally effective for a class of dogs. A product is formulated and/or shaped based on biometric analysis of the capabilities of the class of dogs.

A pet food product for hairball treatment that includes a shell component completely surrounding an inner component to form one dual textured pet food product, wherein the shell component is harder than the inner component. The shell component can include a mixture of soluble and insoluble fiber and can include at least one ingredient comprising a carbohydrate, fat, protein or combination thereof. The inner component comprises a mixture of ingredients, wherein the ingredients include a lubricant.

Food product for hairball treatment

A dog chew made of extruded, edible material has a brush-shaped head at one end and a tail at the other. The brush-shaped head and tail are connected to the head by a shaft. The brush-shaped head is provided with segments (for example six segments) with spaces between the segments adapted to be more easily manipulated in a dog's mouth, so that smaller pieces break off when a dog bites and chews the article. Thus, the brush-shaped head may contain individual segments having an elliptical cross section, so that a dog's tooth can work between the individual segments or 'bristles.' Elsewhere on the profile of the dog chew, stepped surfaces are avoided in favor of smooth, rounded surfaces, so that the dog chew is more easily handled in the dog's mouth and has an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

An oil-bearing nut composition, especially suitable for industrial use, comprises crushed nut pieces in free-flowable, particulate form. The crushed nut pieces have a particle size range of such that from about 15-70% by weight of the total product, based upon total initial weight of nuts, is in the form of particles having a maximum dimension greater than 500 microns, about 12-80% by weight, on a similar basis, is in the form of particles having a maximum dimension less than 150 microns, and there are no particles larger 15 mm. The nut particles retain from 12-85% of the natural nut oil within their microcellular structure. The composition may include an edible stabilizer, which effectively forms a film bounding the crushed nut particles or clusters of them in the composition. Other, flavoring ingredients such as salt and sugar may also be present. The composition is free flowing, particulate, for ease of handling in industrial processes, and is shelf stable, retaining both its natural food freshness and its free flowing characteristics over unrefrigerated storage periods of at least six months.
