A surgical stapling device comprises a housing and a plurality of cartridges that are coupled together to form a barrel that is rotatably supported within the housing. Each of the cartridges defines a plurality of staple pockets that support a plurality of staples. An anvil is pivotally coupled to the housing and is movable in relation to the barrel between an open position and a clamped position. A drive shaft extends through the housing and through the barrel and a pusher operatively connected to the drive shaft. The pusher is configured to translate through the barrel to eject the staples from the plurality of cartridges in response to actuation of the drive shaft. The barrel is positioned within the housing to align a first one of the plurality of cartridges with the anvil to eject the staples from the first cartridge upon movement of the pusher within the barrel through a first firing stroke and subsequently rotatable within the housing to align a second one of the plurality of cartridges with the anvil to eject the staples from the second cartridge upon movement of the pusher within the barrel through a second firing stroke.

Multi-fire lead screw stapling device

A surgical instrument is configured for coupling with an instrument drive unit that drives an actuation of the surgical instrument and operatively supports the surgical instrument. The surgical instrument includes a housing, an elongate body extending distally from the housing, an end effector extending distally from the elongate body, and a plurality of driven members rotatably fixed and longitudinally moveable relative to the elongate body. The plurality of driven members are longitudinal moveable relative to one another. Each driven member of the plurality of drive members is coupled to a respective cable that is attached to the end effector. The plurality of driven members is configured for engagement with an instrument drive unit.

A surgical system for selective connection to a robotic arm includes an instrument drive unit, an instrument support platform coupled to the instrument drive unit, an instrument carriage coupled to the instrument support platform, and a surgical instrument releasably coupled to the instrument carriage. The surgical instrument includes an end effector controllable to perform surgery in response to telemanipulation of actuators in the instrument drive unit.

Robotically controlling surgical assemblies

A surgical system for selective connection to a robotic arm includes an instrument drive unit and a surgical instrument detachably coupled to the instrument drive unit. The instrument drive unit includes first and second actuators and a first translatable member operatively coupled with the first actuator. The surgical instrument includes an adapter portion, an elongate member extending distally from the adapter portion, and an end effector mounted on a distal end of the elongate member. The adapter portion has a first rotatable member operatively associated with the first translatable member. The first rotatable member is rotatable in response to translation of the first translatable member. The end effector is operatively coupled with the first rotatable member, wherein rotation of the first rotatable member effects a first function of the end effector.

A surgical stapling device includes a housing and a plurality of cartridges that are coupled together to form a barrel that is rotatably supported within the housing. Each of the cartridges defines a plurality of staple pockets, each supporting a staple. An anvil is coupled to the housing and is movable in relation to the barrel between an open position and a clamped position. A guide shaft extends through the housing and through the barrel. The guide shaft supports a sled and a clamping member. The sled is configured to translate through the barrel to eject the staples from an active cartridge of the plurality of cartridges in response to actuation of a push rod. After firing staples from the active cartridge, the sled and the guide shaft are configured to index or rotate the barrel within the housing to move a second cartridge of the plurality of cartridges to the active position upon retraction and subsequent movement of the sled through a second firing stroke.

Multi-fire push rod stapling device

A suturing end effector includes a first jaw member, a second jaw member, and a helical needle. The first and second jaw members are moveable relative to one another between open and closed configurations. Each of the first and second jaw members defines a first row of wells that define a helical path when the first and second jaw members are in the closed configuration. The helical needle is rotatable through the helical path between retracted and extended positions. The helical needle is configured to draw a suture through tissue between the first and second jaw members when the helical needle is rotatably advanced through the helical path and configured to be independently moveable relative to the suture when retracted from the advanced position to the retracted position.

A labeling device for a syringe that includes a first labeling subsystem adapted to print a first label having machine readable information and a second labeling subsystem adapted to print a second label having human readable information is disclosed. The first labeling subsystem includes a label applicator adapted to automatically apply the first label to a portion of the syringe. The first labeling subsystem includes a syringe clamp assembly that securely holds the syringe while the label applicator automatically applies a first label to the syringe. The second labeling subsystem includes a removal device adapted to automatically remove a backing material from the second label.
