A multiple depth display provided for displaying images at different depths comprises a single display device (), for displaying all of the images. An optical system () is disposed in front of the display device (). The optical system comprises first and second spaced-apart partial reflectors () and polarization optics () for providing first and second light paths for first and second images or sequences of images displayed by the device (). The first light path () comprises partial transmission through the first reflector (), partial reflection from the second reflector (), partial reflection from the first reflector (), and partial transmission through the second reflector () towards a viewing region.

Display, instrument panel, optical system and optical instrument

A display which includes an array of pixels. Each pixel includes a hydrophobic layer; an electro-wetting fluid adjacent the hydrophobic layer, the electro-wetting fluid including at least first and second fluids immiscible with each other and having different polar properties and different optical properties; and at least one electrode wherein application of a voltage to the electrode alters a wetting effect of the electro-wetting fluid on the hydrophobic layer in a light-modulating area of the pixel. The display further includes a light-concentrating substrate including an array of light-concentrating structures each configured to concentrate light onto the light-modulating area of a corresponding one or more pixels within the array of pixels.

A single view display of reduced power consumption is provided. The display comprises a display device for displaying the single view and an optical system for concentrating light modulated by the single view into a reduced angular range. A viewer direction determining system determines the direction of a viewer relative to the display and controls the display device and the optical system so that the angular range includes the direction of the viewer.

A light emitting diode (LED) is provided along with a method of making the same. The LED includes a conductive n-type region formed on a substrate; an active region formed on the n-type region; a first p-type region formed on the active region; a plurality of nanostructures formed on the first p-type region to carry out light extraction from the active region, the nanostructures having a diameter less than 500 nm; a second p-type region regrown on the first p-type region to form a non-planar surface in combination with the nanostructures; and a p-type electrode formed on the non-planar surface.

A structure for reducing internal reflections in an optical system includes a stack of layers including a first layer having a first refractive index, a second layer having a second refractive index, a third layer having a third refractive index, a fourth layer having a fourth refractive index, and a fifth layer having a fifth refractive index. The second layer is arranged between the first layer and the third layer, and the fourth layer is arranged between the third layer and fifth layer. Further, the third refractive index is greater than the second and fourth refractive indexes, the second refractive index is greater than the first refractive index, and the fourth refractive index is greater than the fifth refractive index.
