A minimally invasive surgical instrument including a viewing instrument and a wiper mechanism configured and adapted to clean a lens of the viewing instrument. The wiper mechanism includes a wiper that is configured and adapted to contact and translate across a surface of the lens. An actuator moves the wiper across the lens to clean the lens.

A device for morcellating tissue within a body cavity of a patient comprises a stationary tube () having a distal end portion, and a bipolar electrosurgical electrode assembly () located at the distal end of the tube. The electrosurgical electrode assembly () comprises first and second electrodes () separated by an insulation member (). When an electrosurgical cutting voltage is applied to the electrode assembly (), and relative movement is initiated between the tube () and the tissue, a slug of resected tissue is formed within the tube such that it can be removed from the body cavity of the patient. The bipolar electrosurgical assembly () has a first circumferential region (A) and a second circumferential region (B), the first circumferential region (A) being longer than the second circumferential region (B), the bipolar electrosurgical assembly being adapted to cut tissue preferentially in the first circumferential region (A) as compared with the second circumferential region (B).

Bipolar surgical morcellator

A method of retrieving a tissue specimen comprising inserting a surgical retrieval apparatus through an opening in a patient's skin, the surgical retrieval apparatus including a support member and a retrieval bag extending from the support member and having an opening to receive the tissue specimen. A net is introduced into the retrieval bag and placed over the tissue specimen. The net and retrieval bag are removed from the patient's body to remove the tissue specimen.

Surgical retrieval apparatus

A surgical retrieval apparatus includes an elongate tubular member having a drive rod slidably disposed therein. A support member is operably coupled to a distal end of the drive rod. A pouch is attached to the support member and has a closed end and an open end. The pouch is securely coupled to the support member.

A specimen retrieval apparatus includes a housing having an elongated tubular member extending distally therefrom. The elongated tubular member defines a longitudinal axis. An end effector assembly is coupled to a distal end of the elongated tubular member. The end effector assembly is configured to retain a specimen retrieval bag thereon. An articulation mechanism is operatively coupled to the elongated tubular member and the end effector assembly. The articulation mechanism is configured for selectively articulating the end effector assembly with respect to the longitudinal axis of the elongated tubular member.

Specimen retrieval apparatus

A surgical retrieval apparatus includes a housing having an elongated sleeve extending therefrom that, together, cooperate to define a lumen extending therethrough. A shaft having an end effector assembly disposed at a distal end thereof is selectively translatable between a first position, wherein the end effector assembly is disposed within the sleeve, and a second position, wherein the end effector assembly extends distally from the sleeve. A specimen retrieval bag is releasably coupled to the end effector assembly and is deployable to an extended position upon movement of the end effector assembly from the first to the second position.

A surgical retrieval apparatus includes a housing defining a longitudinal axis and including an elongated sleeve extending distally therefrom. The housing and the elongated sleeve cooperate to define a lumen extending longitudinally therethrough. A shaft having an end effector disposed at a distal end thereof is selectively translatable between a first position, wherein the end effector is disposed within the elongated sleeve, and a second position, wherein the shaft is translated through the lumen such that the end effector extends distally from the elongated sleeve. An articulation mechanism operably coupled to the end effector is configured for articulating the end effector relative to the longitudinal axis. A specimen retrieval bag is coupled to the end effector and is deployed therefrom upon movement of the end effector from the first position to the second position.

Surgical retrieval apparatus for thoracic procedures

An instrument for cleaning a scope lens having an elongated sheath having proximal and distal end portions and a sheath interior and exterior. The sheath interior is dimensioned and configured to slidingly receive a scope therein. A fluid conduit transports fluid and has a fluid discharge opening to deliver fluid to the lens of the scope, the conduit coupled to the sheath exterior.

Endoscope cleaner

A method and system for removing tissue from a body cavity is provided. The system includes a retrieval bag that is insertable through a first incision in tissue and includes open and closed ends. A surgical instrument is insertable into the body cavity and configured to grasp and excise a sample/specimen from within the body cavity and selectively substantially seal the retrieval bag. A fluid circulator in fluid communication with the surgical instrument and the open end of the retrieval bag is configured to evacuate gaseous matter from within the body cavity and into the open end of the retrieval bag such that the retrieval bag substantially encircles the excised tissue specimen.

System and method for removing excised tissue

A device for morcellating tissue within a body cavity of a patient comprises a stationary tube having a distal end portion, and a bipolar electrosurgical electrode assembly located at the distal end of the tube. The electrosurgical electrode assembly comprises first and second electrodes separated by an insulation member. When an electrosurgical cutting voltage is applied to the electrode assembly, and relative movement is initiated between the tube and the tissue, a core of severed tissue is formed within the tube such that it can be removed from the body cavity of the patient. The tube comprises a twin-walled construction with an inner wall, an outer wall and an air gap therebetween. This twin-walled construction reduces the heat that is able to travel proximally along the tube.

Surgical instrument

An electrosurgical system comprises a generator and an instrument including a first electrode, a second electrode, and an insulating spacer separating the first and second electrodes. The generator repeatedly measures a characteristic of the radio frequency output such as the impedance between the first and second electrodes. The generator analyses the impedance measurements, and interrupts the radio frequency signal when the rate of change of the impedance is such as to indicate the onset of a 'flare-out'. In this way, the power is reduced before the flare-out leads to permanent damage or failure of the instrument.
