An alternating current (AC) motor system includes an AC motor with a rotor and a stator with multi-phase AC stator windings. The system also includes a power inverter that generates a multi-phase AC voltage, an AC bus that connects the power inverter to the stator windings, an AC choke that surrounds the AC bus, and a current sensor with a coil wound on or surrounded by the AC choke. The current sensor measures common mode current in the AC bus, and is used in pulse width modulation or slew rate control of the power inverter, ensuring smooth operation and reducing the risk of damage due to common mode current.

A rotor for rotatably mounting on a rotational axis in an axial flux electric motor includes a permanent magnet (PM) disc having a continuous Halbach magnetization profile. The axial flux electric motor also includes a rotationally fixed stator having a plurality of conductive stator magnetic poles arranged radially about the rotational axis. The rotor is spaced axially from one side of the stator. A motor vehicle employing the subject axial flux electric motor is also contemplated.

A rotor for an electric machine includes a magnetic core configured for arrangement on a shaft. An end ring is arranged on opposite axial ends of the magnetic core. A composite sleeve includes an annular body including an inner surface and an outer surface, and a polymer matrix encapsulating circumferentially oriented fibers. The composite sleeve includes a first tapered portion on the inner surface arranged adjacent to an axial end thereof and configured to facilitate press-fitting of the composite sleeve onto the rotor.

A vehicle, suspension system of the vehicle and method of operating the suspension system is disclosed. The suspension system includes a rotary motor, a rectifier circuit and a logic circuit. The rotary motor is configured to generate a current based on a direction of rotation of the rotary motor. The rectifier circuit is configured to applying a damping force against the rotation at the rotary motor based on an impedance. The logic circuit changes the impedance of the rectifier circuit based on the direction of rotation of the rotary motor.

Passive electromagnetic damper with asymmetrical forces

A vehicle's electrified powertrain includes a battery pack linked to a traction power inverter module (TPIM) converting DC voltage from the battery pack into AC voltage. A rotary electric machine includes a stator energized by the TPIM's AC voltage, enclosing a rotor core capable of rotation. The rotor core contains slots holding conductive bars and permanent magnets, with conductive bars positioned closer to the rotor core's center. The conductive bars and permanent magnets are separated by gaps within each slot. An annular end ring assembly is present at one end of the rotor core, featuring terminal conductors connected to subsets of conductive bars and a secondary coil of a rotary transformer. When the stator is energized, the rotor shaft, connected to the rotor, rotates. The electric machine powers a transmission, which is coupled to the rotor shaft.

Hybrid excited rotary machine

A motor system includes a rechargeable energy storage system, an alternating current motor, and a power inverter. Multiple efficiency maps may be provided, each representing a specific combination of control parameters and associated settings. The maps relate the motor's operating space (torque and speed) to corresponding efficiency solutions. The combination of control parameters and settings that yields the highest motor system efficiency at an operating point may be determined from the multiple efficiency maps and used in controlling the motor.

The present disclosure includes a rotor core assembly for an electric motor. The rotor core assembly includes a plurality of laminations secured together. A center bore is defined by the plurality of laminations. A longitudinal axis of the rotor core assembly extends along an axial center of the center bore. A carbon fiber sleeve surrounds the plurality of laminations. Magnet slots are defined by the plurality of laminations. The magnet slots extend parallel to the longitudinal axis. Magnets are seated in the magnet slots. Reinforcing bores are defined by, and extend across, the plurality of laminations. Reinforcing members are seated in the reinforcing bores.

An electric machine includes a stator, a rotor configured to rotate relative to the stator, an air gap between the stator and the rotor, and a conductive winding disposed in the rotor or the stator. The conductive winding includes a first portion having a first conductivity and a second portion having a second conductivity, the second portion disposed radially between the first portion and the air gap, the first conductivity being different than the second conductivity.

A rotor grounding system for an electric machine includes a rotor including a shaft assembly configured to rotate about an axis. A housing supports the shaft assembly for rotation of the rotor. A bearing assembly has an outer circumference disposed against the shaft assembly. A discharge bar extends through at least a part of the bearing assembly. The bearing assembly has an inner circumference disposed against the discharge bar. A discharge circuit is defined between the rotor and the housing, where the discharge circuit extends through the bearing assembly and the discharge bar.

The first magnetic core is configured to suppress a bearing current flowing across the shaft, the first bearing, and the second bearing.

A heat pipe network includes a plurality of evaporator portions including a hollow structure disposed in at least a portion of the plurality of slots and including an interior having a wick extending along the interior of the hollow structure. A condenser portion has an interior portion in communication with the plurality of evaporator portions and is located at an end of the stator core. The wick of each of the plurality of evaporator portions extend into the condenser portion.

A vehicle, suspension system and method of dampening a force on the suspension system is disclosed. The suspension system includes a damper having a first damping element and a second damping element configured to rotate relative to each other in response to a force received at the suspension system. The second damping element induces an eddy current in the first damping element during relative rotation. A feature of one at least one of the first damping element and the second damping element provides a first electrical resistance to the eddy current during relative rotation in a first direction and a second electrical resistance to the eddy current during relative rotation in a second direction. The first electrical resistance generates a first damping force and the second electrical resistance generates a second damping force.
