An axial bearing assembly is provided having a first washer forming a first raceway and including a radially inner retention flange, and a second washer forming a second raceway axially spaced apart from the first raceway, with the second washer including a radially outer retention flange. A cage including a radially inner rim, a radially outer rim, and a plurality of segments extending between the radially inner and outer rims defining a plurality of rolling element pockets is located between the first and second raceways. Rolling elements are located in at least some of the pockets. The radially outer rim of the cage includes a circumferentially extending groove on a radially outer surface. Outer retention tabs extend from the radially outer retention flange into the circumferentially extending groove.

Axial bearing assembly with cage to accommodate radial misalignment condition

A thrust bearing cage includes a piloting feature to radially locate a thrust bearing with respect to one of the shafts. Specifically, the bearing cage includes an axial extension at an outer diameter that extends beyond the rollers and around an outer diameter of end of the shaft. This feature permits elimination of a washer.

Thrust bearing cage with piloting flange

A thrust bearing having an inner cage having inner cage pockets, with inner rollers in the inner cage pockets, and a first outer cage having a larger diameter than the inner cage and having first outer cage pockets, with first outer rollers in the first outer cage pockets. The inner cage and the first outer cage are axially and radially aligned. A radially extending rim is provided on one circumferential side of one of the inner cage or the first outer cage that faces a facing circumferential side of the other of the inner cage or the first outer cage. First and second radially extending side tabs are provided on the facing circumferential side of the other of the inner cage or the first outer cage that define a circumferentially extending channel therebetween that receives the radially extending rim to connect the cages together.

Multiple row thrust bearings

A roller bearing includes a first race, a second race, and a cage disposed between the first and second races. The cage has an inner rim and a plurality of webs extending radially outboard from the inner rim and being circumferentially arranged around the inner rim to be spaced apart to define pockets. The webs have flanges that extend axially. Portions of the inner rim form inner guide surfaces of the pockets. The cage further includes a wavy outer rim circumscribing the inner rim. The outer rim has radially outer portions attached to the flanges and radially inner portions forming outer guide surfaces of the pockets. The outer rim and the flanges cooperate to define cutouts interleaved with the webs. Cylindrical roller elements are disposed in the pockets between the first and second races and have first ends adjacent the inner guide surfaces and second ends adjacent the outer guide surfaces.

High-speed bearing

A method of assembling a thrust bearing arrangement is disclosed. The method includes (a) providing a thrust bearing assembly. The thrust bearing assembly includes a support washer. The support washer includes a radially outer rim defining a plurality of slots extending radially outward from the radially outer rim. The method includes (b) providing a spring plate. The spring plate includes projections at a radially outer region. The projections extend in an axial direction. The method includes (c) aligning the projections of the spring plate with the slots of support washer. The method includes (d) deforming the projections of the spring plate to retain the thrust bearing assembly with the spring plate.

Thrust bearing arrangement

A cage for a thrust bearing assembly is disclosed. The cage includes a radially inner flange, a radially outer flange, and a plurality of crossbars extending therebetween that define a lower portion of a plurality of rolling element pockets. The radially inner flange includes a first plurality of retention bars extending radially outwardly, and the radially outer flange includes a second plurality of retention bars extending radially inwardly. The first plurality of retention bars and the second plurality of retention bars each partially define an upper portion of the plurality of rolling element pockets.
