A moisture barrier coating includes the reaction product of (A) at least one polyol and (B) at least one polyisocyanate. The moisture barrier coating further includes at least one amorphous thermoplastic material that forms a homogeneous mixture with the polyol, and is nonreactive with the polyol and with the polyisocyanate. A controlled release fertilizer, a method for the production of a controlled release fertilizer, and a moisture barrier coating composition are also disclosed.

Polyurethane moisture barrier coatings containing thermoplastic resins

A moisture barrier coating includes the reaction product of (A) at least one polyglycidyl ether resin, and (B) at least one epoxy curing agent comprising amines. The moisture barrier coating further includes at least one amorphous thermoplastic material that is nonreactive with A and with B, and that forms a homogeneous mixture with at least one of A or B. A controlled release fertilizer, a method for the production of a controlled release fertilizer, and a moisture barrier coating system are also disclosed.

Epoxide moisture barrier coatings containing thermoplastic resins

Moisture barrier coatings and sealants comprised of mixtures of organic wax and wax soluble polymer dispersed into one or more components of a thermoset polymer which may form a semi-interpenetrating polymer network when the thermoset polymer is subsequently cured on the substrate. The organic wax and wax soluble polymer substantially improve the moisture barrier properties of the thermoset polymer and provides an effective moisture barrier coating that is non-tacky at the cure temperature of the thermoset polymer, without the requirement for a cooling step.

Moisture barrier coatings

Surfaces are modified with polymeric or monomeric amic acids that also comprise one or more tertiary amine functional groups. The amic acids may provide benefits including hydrophilicity, soil resistance, and corrosion inhibition to the treated surfaces. Compositions and methods for treating surfaces are provided.

Amic acids as surface treatments

Modified protein compositions that provide benefits in laundry products are produced by minimal processing of crude protein sources. Modifications include reaction with one or more of 1) cationic functional agents, 2) anionic functional agents, 3) proteolytic enzymes, 4) reducing agents and 5) oxidizing agents. They may be complexed with a surfactant to improve the separation from insoluble cellulosic carbohydrate materials in the crude protein sources, and to improve their dispersibility and effectiveness in laundry products. The resulting products may provide benefits of preventing soil redeposition, preventing dye transfer, soil repellency, and fabric wear reduction in laundry operations. The invention also encompasses the laundry products comprising the protein compositions.

Laundry additives from modified crude protein sources

An encapsulated particle includes a core particle and a polyurethane disposed about the core particle. The polyurethane includes the reaction product of an aromatic isocyanate component and a polyol component. The polyol component includes a polyol derived from an aromatic amine-based initiator and an aliphatic polyether polyol. The polyol derived from the aromatic amine-based initiator has a nominal functionality of 4. The aliphatic polyether polyol has a nominal functionality of from 2 to 4. The weight ratio of the polyol derived from the aromatic amine-based initiator and the aliphatic polyether polyol is from about 1:2 to 2:1. Insolubilizing agents are disclosed for pigment binders and surface sizes containing functional groups capable of reacting with carboxylic acid anhydride moieties to form chemical bonds. The insolubilizing agents are polymers or other compounds containing a plurality of carboxylic acid anhydride moieties per molecular entity. The anhydride moieties do not substantially hydrolyze or otherwise react until the paper coating is applied to the paper and dried and cured, at which time the anhydride moieties react with the functional groups of the pigment binder or surface size and render it water insoluble. A method to improve the water resistance and printability of coated paper using the insolubilizing agents of the invention is also disclosed.

Insolubilizing additives for paper coating binders and paper surface size

A method of reducing sulfide odors in wastewater collection and treatment systems. The method includes adding nitrate ions in the form of a controlled release composition and microbes to the wastewater effective to reduce hydrogen sulfide levels. The controlled release composition can be in the form of a water-in-oil emulsion. The microbes can be aerobic and facultative Bacillus species.

Sealant compositions for sulfur coated fertilizer particles are mixtures of wax materials and additives which provide improved moisture barrier properties and abrasion resistance. The sealants have penetration values measured by ASTM D-1321 of at least 20 at 25.degree. C., and congealing points measured by ASTM D-938 of between about 50.degree. C. and about 100.degree. C. The sealed fertilizer particles are conditioned with particulate materials with a surface area of at least about 2 m.sup.2 /g and an oil absorption of at least about 100%. A method for the production of abrasion resistant sulfur coated fertilizers is also disclosed.

Sequestrant compositions comprising combinations of an alkali metal or ammonium borate with an adduct formed by reaction of an .alpha., .beta. unsaturated polycarboxylic acid with a mono- or dicarboxylated sugar, in which the adduct has at least two hydroxy groups in a vicinal configuration. The sequestrants can be used to complex alkaline earth and transition metal ions and are especially useful for complexing calcium and magnesium in aqueous laundry solutions. They also are effective for soil dispersion and for inhibiting the deposition of soil on fabric.
