Methods and systems that present URLs from a history of records organized by locations are described. Each record may be stored to represent a URL accessed for retrieving a web page by a browser hosted in a device at a certain point in time. Additionally, the record may include a location data indicating a physical location of the device at the certain point in time. Optionally, a timestamp indicating the certain point in time may be included in the record. Groups of the records may be clustered according to the locations. In one embodiment, at least one of the groups may be selected for presentation on a display according to where the display is currently located.

Location based grouping of browsing histories

A reading list panel is displayed as a sidebar window with respect to a main window of a content viewing application. In response to a first input, a first article representation of a first article associated with a presentation page displayed in the main window is listed in the reading list panel, where the first article representation includes information identifying the first article. In response to a selection of a second article representation from the reading list panel, content of a second article represented by the second article representation is presented in a reader mode within the main window.

Method for presenting documents using a reading list panel

One embodiment of a method for archiving and restoring web pages can remove elements from web data to be stored as web archive data that can cause two or more substantially similar elements to appear within a web page later created from the web archive data. In another embodiment, a web page can be constructed from web archive data. This constructed web page may not be displayed, but can be inspected for substantially similar elements so that those elements can be removed. After the elements are removed, then the web page can be displayed to a user. Either embodiment can be used alone or in parallel to reduce the appearance of substantially similar elements within a web page constructed from a web archive.

Method and apparatus for archiving dynamic webpages based on source attributes

A method for improving backward and forward web browser performance is described. In one embodiment, backward and forward web performance is enhanced by ignoring unload handler scripts and caching web pages. Web elements with unload handler scripts are examined. In a first pass, if the web page elements are not determined to be significant, then the related unload handler scripts can be ignored, enabling the web page to be cached. In a second pass, if the web page element is significant, but the unload handler script is determined to be insignificant, then the unload handler script can be ignored and the web page can be cached.

Method for improving backward/forward performance between certain types of dynamic web pages

Polarization dependent loss may be reduced by providing at least one dummy waveguide or at least one dummy metal structure. Polarization dependent loss may also be reduced by imposing a mechanical force on the OIC to exert mechanical stress thereby changing at least one of the birefringence and the optical axes of at least one waveguide. And polarization dependent loss may be reduced by forming a metal heater using a first set of metal deposition parameters; forming a conductive metal structure contacting the metal heater using a second set of metal deposition parameters; and selecting the first set of metal deposition parameters and the second set of metal deposition parameters to reduce stress.

Methods to reduce polarization dependent loss in planar lightwave circuits

Optical circuits are disclosed having a source waveguide, a first tap waveguide and a second tap waveguide. Optical power is transferred via evanescent coupling from the source waveguide to the first tap waveguide and from the first tap waveguide to the second tap waveguide such that power loss is minimized. Also disclosed are methods for fabricating optical integrated circuits.

Optical tap for optical integrated circuits

A method of making an optical waveguide structure for an active PLC device having a reduced dn/dt birefringence. The method includes the step of forming a waveguide core layer on a bottom cladding, the waveguide core layer having a higher refractive index than the bottom cladding. The waveguide core layer is then etched to define a waveguide core. A top cladding is subsequently formed over the waveguide core and the bottom cladding. The top cladding also has a lower refractive index than the waveguide core. The top cladding is then etched to define a first trench and a second trench parallel to the waveguide core. The first trench and the second trench are configured to relieve a stress on the waveguide core. This stress can be induced by a heater, as in a case where the active PLC is a thermo-optic PLC. The first trench and the second trench can extend from an upper surface of the top cladding to an upper surface of the bottom cladding. The first trench and the second trench can extend from the upper surface of the top cladding into a portion of the underlying substrate. The first trench and the second trench are configured to balance a tensile stress within the waveguide core. A cap can be formed over the waveguide core prior to forming the top cladding to further balance the tensile stress within the waveguide core. The bottom cladding can have a higher dopant concentration than the top cladding.
