The invention relates to new compounds of Formula 1: wherein R, R, are each independently hydrogen, a linear or branched Calkyl, C-alkenyl or C-alkynyl group, an aryl or C-alkylaryl group; X is H, OH, O(M)or Rwhere M is a metal ion derived from a lanthanide, actinide, main group or transition metal and V is a substituted C-alkyl, C-alkenyl or C-alkynyl group or an aryl group or C-alkylaryl sulfide, sulfoxide, sulfone, amine or a polyalkyl amine or phosphine or other phosphorous containing group; Ris a linear or branched Calkyl, C-alkenyl or C-alkynyl group, an aryl or C-alkylaryl group; e is an integer from 0 to 2; f is an integer from 1 to 100; n is an integer from 1 to 4: the free valences of the silicate oxygen atoms are saturated by one or more of: silicon atoms of other groups of Formula 1, hydrogen, a linear or branched C-alkyl group or by cross-linking bridge members or by polymer chains (R)Si(OR)Oor (R)SiOor (R)SiOor RTi(OR)Oor Al(OR)Oor RAl(OR)O; where Ris a linear or branched C-alkyl group; and Ris a linear or branched C-alkyl group; k is an integer from 1 to 4 and q is an integer from 0 to 3 and m is an integer from 0 to 3; such that m+k+q=4; p is an integer from 1 to 3; and r is an integer from 1 to 2: a, b, c and d are integers such that the ratio of a:b varies from 0.00001 to 100,000 and in the formula ABCDwhere A represents [OSiCHCHS(O)(CRR)S(O)X], B represents [(OSiCHCHS(O)(CRR)S(O)CHCHSi(O)], C represents [OSi] and D represents [OSiV] both A and B are always present. The compounds are useful as scavengers for the removal of unwanted organic and inorganic compounds, for solid phase extraction, for solid phase synthesis, for catalysis, for metal ion abstraction and for the immobilisation of bio-molecules. In addition, the compounds have high chemical and thermal stability, fixed and rigid structures, are insoluble in organic solvents, high resistance to ageing, and can easily be purified and reused.

The compounds are useful as catalysts for a wide variety of reactions and have the advantages that they can be prepared in a one-pot reaction and functional group losding can be tailored to be at a required level. In addition, the compounds have high chemical and thermal stability, fixed and rigid structures, are insoluble in organic solvents, high resistance to ageing, and can easily be purified and reused.

Organopolysiloxanes containing phosphonic groups, method for the production and use thereof

The compounds are useful as fluorescent sensors for metal cations and have the advantages of excellent water solubility, selectivity and sensitivity to a variety of metal cations even in the presence of high concentrations of CaNaand K, good cell permeability, flexible and simple syntheses, ease of attachment to polymers and bio-polymers to aid the identification of both chemical and biological processes as well as for assaying physiological samples and for the attachment to surfaces such as glasses, ceramics and apatites.
