A method of controlling current through a transistor is provided. A voltage and current through the transistor are measured. A safe operating current for the voltage is determined. For each of a first sequence of current pulses, a voltage of a voltage pulse applied to a control node of the transistor using a feedback controller is adjusted until the current measured through the transistor is not greater than a first function of the safe operating current. For each of a second sequence of current pulses after the first sequence of current pulses, the voltage of the voltage pulse applied to the control node of the transistor using the feedback controller is adjusted until the current measured through the transistor is not greater than a second function of the safe operating current.

System and method for pulsed gate control of a transistor

An apparatus comprises a switch, a current monitor, and a controller. During operation, the switch controls an amount of current through the load. The current monitor samples a magnitude of the current through the load, a magnitude of which varies over time during a time duration. Based on integrating the sample magnitudes of the current through the load over the time duration, the current monitor produces a current sense value. The current sense value is representative of an amount of current through the load. The controller controls an operational state of the switch based upon a comparison of the current sense value with respect to an over-current threshold value. For example, in response to detecting a condition in which the current sense value is greater than the overcurrent threshold value, the controller turns OFF (deactivates) the switch, reducing or eliminating delivery of current through the load.

Disclosed is a method for driving a transistor device and an electronic circuit. The method includes: in an on-state of the transistor device (), reducing a drive voltage (V) of the transistor device () from a maximum voltage level (V) to an intermediate voltage level (V) that is higher than a threshold voltage level (V) of the transistor device (); maintaining the intermediate voltage level (V) for a predefined time period (T); and reducing the drive voltage (V) to below the threshold voltage level (V) after the predefined time period (T) to switch the transistor device to an off-state.

Method for driving a transistor device and electronic circuit

A voltage regulator controller includes a first pin for receiving aggregate temperature information from a plurality of power stages, a plurality of second pins each for receiving phase current information from one of the power stages, control circuitry for controlling the power stages, detection circuitry for detecting signal levels at the first and second pins, and fault analysis circuitry for identifying the type of reported fault and the power stage that reported the fault based on the detected signal levels at the first and second pins and state information accessible by the controller. Aggregate temperature information is reported at the first pin in a first nominal range, and phase current information is reported at each of the second pins in a second nominal range. Each reported fault type has a unique fault signature at the first and second pins, which is outside at least one of the nominal ranges.

A power stage of a voltage regulator includes a first switch for connecting a load to a supply voltage in a first switching state of the power stage, a second switch for connecting the load to ground in a second switching state of the power stage and driver circuitry for setting the power stage in the first switching state, the second switching state or a non-switching state in which both switches are off responsive to a switching control signal received by the power stage. A power management unit moves the power stage from a nominal power mode to a first low power mode if the power stage is in the non-switching state for a predetermined time period.
