A method and apparatus for allocating resources to a node in an ad-hoc communication system is provided herein. During operation, nodes of the system will receive resource allocations from their parent node. The resource allocation comprises a portion of available resources that may vary in size. Each node will determine the resource needs for its children nodes only and then dynamically assign resources to them. The resources assigned to the children nodes comprise a portion of the resources assigned to the node by its parent node. Additionally, knowledge as to how the children further allocate resources to their own children is not known by the parent, however, the children nodes must allocate a portion of their resource to their children nodes.

A method and apparatus that allocates bandwidth among wireless sensor nodes in wireless sensor groups in a wireless sensor network (WSN) is disclosed. The method may include forming a plurality of wireless sensor node groups from a plurality of wireless sensor nodes based on battery levels of the wireless senor nodes, allocating transmission time slots for the wireless sensor nodes in each of the wireless sensor node groups based on at least one channel quality metric, determining average battery levels for each of the wireless sensor node groups and average battery level of all of the wireless sensor nodes, determining differences between the average battery levels of each of the wireless sensor node groups and the average battery level of all of the wireless sensor nodes, wherein if any difference in the average battery levels is above a predetermined threshold, regrouping the plurality of wireless sensor nodes according to the battery levels of the plurality wireless sensor nodes to minimize any variance in average battery level across all of the wireless sensor node groups.

A re-configurable, streaming vector processor () is provided which includes a number of function units (), each having one or more inputs for receiving data values and an output for providing a data value, a re-configurable interconnection switch () and a micro-sequencer (). The re-configurable interconnection switch () includes one or more links, each link operable to couple an output of a function unit () to an input of a function unit () as directed by the micro-sequencer (). The vector processor may also include one or more input-stream units () for retrieving data from memory. Each input-stream unit is directed by a host processor and has a defined interface () to the host processor. The vector processor also includes one or more output-stream units () for writing data to memory or to the host processor. The defined interface of the input-stream and output-stream units forms a first part of the programming model. The instructions stored in a memory, in the sequence that direct the re-configurable interconnection switch, form a second part of the programming model.

A method for scheduling a computation for execution on a computer with a number of interconnected functional units. The computation is representable by a data-flow graph with a number of nodes connected by edge. A loop-period of the computation is calculated and the nodes are scheduled for throughput by assigning an execution cycle and a functional unit to each node of the data-flow graph. The scheduling of flexible nodes is adjusted to minimize the number of interconnections required in each execution cycle. The edges of the data-flow graph are allocated to one or more of the interconnections between functional units. The scheduling method may be used, for example, to optimize the interconnection fabric design for an ASIC or as part of a compiler for a re-configurable streaming vector processor.

The formatted description is a sequential instruction list comprising source instructions, computational instructions and sink instructions. The computer is directed by a program of instructions to implement a computation representable by a data-flow graph.

The data communication receiver (510) includes a controller (1025) for adding the plurality of correction factors to the one-dimensional transformed image data to generate a plurality of column signals which drive an active-addressed, rms-responding display (100).

The processor has an image thinner (206) for thinning each line of the hand written information, a line segment locator (208) for locating the lines of the hand written information having end points, a line segment extractor (210) for extracting the lines of the hand written information and defining the lines of the hand written information as line segments, and a line segment organizer (212) for organizing the line segments to recover the hand written information. The selective call communication system (10) also has a transmitter (30) for transmitting the line segments of hand written information to an at least one selective call receiver (40) capable of receiving facsimile information.

The calculating engine (610, 612) calculates one of the plurality of drive signals for the one of the plurality of second electrodes (104) as a function of the plurality of periodic first drive signals (400) for the time slot and a selected plurality of pixel values for pixels collectively controlled by the one of the plurality of second electrodes. The calculating engine (610, 612) represents the plurality of periodic first drive signals as a sequency-ordered Walsh-Hadamard transform (WHT) matrix (300) having a number of rows corresponding to the plurality of first electrodes (106) and a number of columns corresponding to the predetermined number of time slots (410-412). An identifier (510) identifies a plurality of hierarchical tree structures (Rows 1-8) corresponding to the WHT matrix (300) representation of the plurality of periodic first drive signals (400). An encoder (1504) encodes the data. A processor processes (510) the encoded data and the hierarchical tree structures (Rows 1-8) identified in the WHT matrix (300) for addressing of the pixels (108) of the electronic display (100).

At least a portion (44) of a source document (26) is compressed with each of a plurality of code-books (50) and the smallest resulting data file is selected as the optimal compressed file. The compressed data file is transmitted to a selective call receiver (40) together with an index identifying the optimal code-book. The selective call receiver (40) stores each of the plurality of code-books and accesses the particular code-book for decompressing the data file on the basis of the received index. In an alternative embodiment, the fax message is divided into composing segments (SI1, SI2 and SI3) and each segment is compressed with each code-book to determine the optimal code-book for each segment.
