Methods of treating acute heart failure in a patient in need thereof. Methods include inserting a therapy delivery device into a pulmonary artery of the patient and applying a therapy signal to autonomic cardiopulmonary fibers surrounding the pulmonary artery. The therapy signal affects heart contractility more than heart rate. Specifically, the application of the therapy signal increases heart contractility and treats the acute heart failure in the patient. The therapy signal can include electrical or chemical modulation.

Methods and systems for treating acute heart failure by neuromodulation

Methods for improving an inflammatory disorder in a subject are provided. Methods include positioning a therapy delivery device on a neural target site that contributes to immune activity of the subject. The therapy delivery device is activated to deliver a therapy signal to the neural target site to improve the subject's inflammatory disorder.

The delivery component can be configured for implantation on or about an autonomic nervous tissue target or a spinal nervous tissue target. The controller can be configured to automatically coordinate operation of the sensing and delivery components. The controller can also be configured to deliver an electrical signal to the delivery component to modulate activity at the autonomic nervous tissue target or a spinal nervous tissue target and effectively treat autonomic instability or a medical condition associated therewith.

Systems and methods for treating autonomic instability and medical conditions associated therewith

One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a closed loop therapy system for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in a subject. The therapy delivery system can include a sensing component, a delivery component, and a controller. The sensing can be configured to detect at least one physiological parameter associated with PTSD. The delivery component can be configured for implantation on or about a pre-determined spinal simulation site. The pre-determined spinal stimulation site can include a spinal cord segment, or spinal nervous tissue associated therewith, other than a C1-C3 spinal cord segment or spinal nervous tissue associated therewith. The controller can be configured to automatically coordinate operation of the sensing and delivery components. The controller can also be configured to deliver an electrical signal to the delivery component to modulate activity at the pre-determined spinal stimulation site to effectively treat PTSD in the subject.

One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a therapy delivery device for treating an obstetric or gynecological disorder other than urinary incontinence in a subject. The therapy delivery device can include a housing, at least one electrode, and a power source. The housing can be configured for implantation in a reproductive system of the subject. The at least one electrode can be connected to the housing and be configured to deliver an electrical signal to an autonomic nervous system nerve target. The power source can be in electrical communication with the at least one electrode.

One aspect of the present disclosure includes a method for treating chronic or refractory rhinitis in a subject. One step of the method includes implanting a therapy delivery system in the subject so that at least one therapy delivery component of the system is positioned substantially adjacent a target location where modulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is effective to treat chronic or refractory rhinitis. The therapy delivery component includes at least one electrode configured to deliver electric current to the target location. Next, electric current is delivered to the at least one electrode to effect a change in the ANS.

In certain embodiments, at least one of the target sites is the medial thalamic region, including the intralaminar nucleus and the adjacent white and grey matter. Systems and methods for treating medical conditions by stimulation of medial thalamic region

One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a method for treating body organ aging in a mammal. One step of the method includes identifying at least one target organ in need of a therapy signal. Next, a therapy delivery device is placed into electrical communication with an autonomic nervous system (ANS) nerve target and/or a central nervous system (CNS) nerve target associated with the at least one target organ. The therapy delivery device is then activated to deliver the therapy signal to the ANS nerve target and/or the CNS nerve target in an amount and for a time sufficient to effect a change in sympathetic and/or parasympathetic activity associated with the at least one target organ.
