During a first portion (A) of an active time () of discontinuous reception (DRX) operation, a wireless device () monitors a control channel () using a first control channel monitoring configuration (-). During the active time (), though, the wireless device () switches from the first control channel monitoring configuration (-) to a second control channel monitoring configuration (-N). This switching may be triggered by occurrence of an event. During a second portion (OB) of the active time () occurring subsequent to the first portion (A) and after this switching, then, the wireless device () monitors the control channel () using the second control channel monitoring configuration (-N). The first portion (A) of the active time () and the second portion (OB) of the active time () may be included in the same DRX cycle.

Control channel monitoring in a wireless communication system

According to some embodiments, a method performed by a wireless device operating in idle/inactive mode comprises receiving assistance information from a network node, wherein the assistance information comprises a time-domain resource guarantee for a recurrent wakeup activity; and based on the assistance information, determining whether to enter a power saving mode of operation between receiving control information associated with the recurrent wakeup activity and receiving data information associated with the recurrent wakeup activity.

Recurrent data reception in idle/inactive UE

Embodiments include methods, performed by a user equipment (UE), for selective transmission or reception of signals or channels with a wireless network. Such methods include receiving a first physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmission from the wireless network. Such methods also include, without determining whether a signal or channel is scheduled for the UE during a first duration immediately following the first PDCCH transmission, refraining from transmitting or receiving any signals or channels during the first duration. The first duration can be based on one or more of the following: predicted scheduling characteristics for the PDCCH; UE operating conditions; and communication characteristics of an application running on the UE. In some embodiments, such methods can also include determining the predicted scheduling characteristics based on a plurality of second PDCCH transmissions received, from the wireless network, before the first PDCCH transmission. Other embodiments include UEs configured to perform such methods.

Selective transmission or reception for reducing UE energy consumption

An access node () configures a User Equipment, UE (), with a power saving monitoring pattern, and subsequently transmits a power saving signal configured to switch the UE () from monitoring a downlink in accordance with a connected mode discontinuous reception, C-DRX, monitoring pattern to monitoring the downlink in accordance with the power saving monitoring pattern. For each of the monitoring patterns, monitoring the downlink in accordance with the monitoring pattern comprises monitoring the downlink only when a monitoring opportunity of the monitoring pattern is concurrent with a scheduled active interval of a C-DRX configuration of the UE (). For any C-DRX cycle of the C-DRX configuration, the monitoring of the downlink in accordance with the power saving monitoring pattern has a shorter monitoring duration than the monitoring of the downlink in accordance with the C-DRX monitoring pattern. The UE () correspondingly receives the power saving signal and switches how it monitors the downlink accordingly.

Reducing power consumption of a user equipment configured for discontinuous reception

Embodiments include methods, performed by a user equipment (UE), for receiving reference signals (RS) in a wireless network. Such methods include receiving, from a network node in the wireless network, a configuration for connected-state RS transmitted by the network node. In some embodiments, the connected-state RS can be periodic channel state information RS (CSI-RS) or periodic tracking RS (TRS). Such methods include, while the UE is in a non-connected state and based on the received configuration, determining that the connected-state RS are available during one or more first occasions. Such methods include, while the UE is in the non-connected state, selectively receiving the connected-state RS during the first occasions. Other embodiments include complementary methods performed by a network node, as well as UEs and network nodes configured to perform such methods.

Additional reference signals for UEs in non-connected states

A simulated Public Warning System (PWS) message is defined for efficient PWS testing. The simulated PWS message mimics a conventional PWS message, but indicates that it is not to be propagated across an air interface to UEs. However, the simulated PWS message is otherwise propagated through the network as a PWS message. This allows for testing the generation and propagation of PWS messages, without wasting valuable air interface and battery resources. In some embodiments, network nodes may initiate testing by requesting a simulated PWS message. An Access and Mobility management Function (AMF) node in a wireless communication network collects and reports network status to a PWS entity. The AMF node ascertains the functionality of network functions, nodes, and interfaces to which it is connected, independently from receiving reports of such functionality, and an indication of any detected fault or failure is sent to the PWS entity.

Systems and methods for monitoring and efficiently testing network resource availability and configuration for public warning systems

A wireless communication device having a receiving module, a transmitting module, and a processor which includes a determining module, and a processing module, wherein the wireless communication device is arranged to perform a method for power savings in a wireless communication system. Transmissions of a first set of reference symbols, RSs, and a second set of RSs are provided in the wireless communication system. The method includes obtaining information on the transmission of the second set of RSs, and determining which RS to use for idle mode tasks based on the obtained information on the transmission of the second set of RSs. The first set of RSs are provided periodically, and the second set of RSs are provided any of periodic, semi-persistent or aperiodic transmissions.

Method and wireless communication device exploiting additional reference symbols in idle mode for power saving

A method is disclosed of paging a user equipment (UE) by a network node. The network node is configured for beam-formed transmission of a plurality of beams, wherein each beam is associated with a corresponding synchronization signal block (SSB), and wherein a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) paging monitoring occasion (PMO) is associated with a preceding SSB. The method comprises determining (while the UE is in a non-connected mode) a subset of the plurality of beams related to one or more beams previously associated with the UE, transmitting the corresponding SSB for each beam of the plurality of beams, and paging the UE only in PDCCH PMO:s associated with the corresponding SSB:s of the beams of the subset. Corresponding apparatus, network node and computer program product are also disclosed.

Paging a user equipment by a network node

A method, system, network node and wireless device are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, A network node configured to communicate with a wireless device is provided. The network node includes processing circuitry configured to: determine a short DRX configuration based at least on a delay value constraint associated with the wireless device, and transmit an indication of the short DRX configuration and a long DRX configuration where the short DRX configuration corresponds to a shorter cycle length than a cycle length of the long DRX configuration.

Adaptation of active-time PDCCH monitoring using short discontinuous reception (DRX)

A method, network node and wireless device for adaptation of search space (SS) density by bandwidth part (BWP) switching are disclosed. According to one aspect, a wireless device (WD) is configured to switch between a sparse search space (SS) configuration and a dense SS configuration, and monitor a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) according to one of the sparse SS in a first BWP, and the dense SS in a second BWP.

Adaptation of active time physical downlink control channel monitoring using band-width part switching

A wireless communication device having a receiving module, a transmitting module, and a processor which includes a determining module, and a processing module, wherein the wireless communication device is arranged to perform a method for power saving when operating in idle mode in a wireless communication system. Transmissions of a first set of reference symbols, RSs, and a second set of RSs are provided in the wireless communication system. The method includes estimating transmission pattern of the second set of RSs, and determining when to wake up in the idle mode to perform associated measurements based on the estimated transmission pattern of the second set of RSs. The first set of RSs are provided periodically, and the second set of RSs are provided in any of periodic, semi-persistent or aperiodic transmissions.

Methods for user equipment measurements on additional reference symbols during idle mode for power saving

Systems and methods for relaxed inter-frequency measurements are provided. In some embodiments, a method performed by a wireless device for relaxing inter-frequency measurements includes receiving an indication that frequencies should have relaxed inter-frequency measurements; and relaxing the inter-frequency measurements for the indicated frequencies. In this way, in some embodiments, the wireless device relaxes measurements on that frequency only when the network indicates that relaxed measurements may be applied to the inter-frequency. This implies that legacy measurement performance and mobility is retained. The measurements can be relaxed when the network is aware of spotty coverage on certain frequencies. Furthermore, the network has explicit control over the relaxation, e.g., the network can indicate how much the measurements may be relaxed, i.e., there can be a guarantee for a minimum measurement performance. The wireless device can revert to legacy measurement requirements when a suitable cell is detected or cell re-selection is performed.

Relaxed inter-frequency measurements

A method and wireless device (WD) for autonomous WD wake up are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a wireless device configured to communicate with a network node is provided. The wireless device includes processing circuitry configured to determine that a transmitted wake up signal has been missed before a discontinuous reception (DRX) ON-duration, and perform at least one action during the DRX ON-duration based at least in part on the determination that the wake signal has been missed.

Wireless device-autonomous procedures for missed-wake up signals

A communication device configured to operate in a communications network that includes a network node can determine that the communication device will perform a radio link procedure ('RLP') in a mode of operation. The communication device can further determine information associated with a channel monitoring pattern (“CMP”) based on determining that the communication device will perform the RLP in the mode of operation. The communication device can further monitor a channel between the network node and the communication device based on the information associated with the CMP.

Adapting channel monitoring patterns under power saving

A method, network node and wireless device for adaptive connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) configurations. According to one aspect, a method includes configuring a first set of short discontinuous reception, DRX, cycles and a second set of long DRX cycles, each DRX cycle having a duration for which the WD listens for an uplink grant from the network node. The method further includes transmitting to the WD at least a number of DRX cycles in the first set and a number of cycles in the second set.
