Technologies are disclosed for performing context-aware routing of traffic based on an application of a series of filters and/or selectors to determine an optimal group of interfaces for servicing traffic relating to a prefix. A traffic management control plane processes input data corresponding to aggregated telemetry data for a network by determining candidate groups of interfaces to service a network prefix and applies tunable filters and/or selectors to the candidate groups to determine a targeted group to use for servicing traffic corresponding to the prefix. The determined targeted group is mapped to the prefix in a mapping result, which is then provided to an actuator interface to control network devices to inject the new mapping into the network to control traffic according to the mapping.

Network traffic management

Programming routers in a network is accomplished using a global network manager and a plurality of local network managers. The global network manager analyzes an entire network and demand matrix in order to provide restrictions and recommendations that are communicated to a set of the local network managers. The local network managers can use the restrictions and recommendations to make local routing decisions defining a percentage of traffic routed to each neighboring node. The local network manager collects traffic metrics, such as local topology and traffic information by measuring the capacity available to reach any neighboring node. The local network manager uses the metrics in combination with the restrictions and recommendations from the global manager to make decisions on how to route network traffic.

Directing network traffic using local routing decisions with a global overview

Systems and methods are disclosed for monitoring routing data and issuing alarms for route anomalies detected based on the monitored routing data. Routing data, including Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) announcement and/or withdraw messages for a targeted prefix of an Autonomous System (AS), is collected and analyzed to detect route anomalies. The analysis may include a comparison of the BGP messages to internal routing data. An alarm is selectively output corresponding to the detected route anomalies. The detected route anomalies may be correlated with monitored network traffic data to classify the route anomalies, where the output of the alarm is based on the classification of the route anomalies.
