A process for producing black powder oxygen carriers for use in a chemical looping combustion unit includes the steps of: (a) removing and collecting the black powder waste material that was formed in a gas pipeline; (b) pre-treating the collected black powder to adjust its spherical shape to avoid attrition and fines production; and (c) activating the black powder to increase its reactivity rate and produce the black powder oxygen carrier that is suitable for use in the chemical looping combustion process as an oxygen carrier.

Activation of waste metal oxide as an oxygen carrier for chemical looping combustion applications

A system integrating heavy fuel coking and chemical looping combustion is provided. The system includes a source of heavy fuel, a cracking reactor into which the fuel and metal oxides are introduced, a fuel reactor in fluid communication with the cracking reactor, and an air reactor in fluid communication with the fuel reactor. In the cracking reactor, the fuel undergoes a cracking reaction forming products and petcoke deposits on the metal oxides. The fuel reactor is configured to gasify metal oxides with petcoke deposits to produce syngas and reduce the metal oxides. The system transports a first portion of the reduced metal oxides to the cracking reactor and a second portion to the fuel reactor. The air reactor is configured to receive reduced metal oxides from the fuel reactor and oxidize them. The system is further configured to transport the oxidized metal oxides to the fuel reactor.

Integrated heavy liquid fuel coking with chemical looping concept

A chemical looping combustion (CLC) process for sour gas combustion is integrated with a gas turbine combined cycle and a steam generation unit, and is configured to provide in-situ removal of HS from the sour gas fuel by reacting the HS with a oxygen carrier at a location within the fuel reactor of the CLC unit. The process is also configured such that oxygen-rich exhaust gases from the gas turbine combined cycle is used to feed the air reactor of the CLC unit and re-oxidize oxygen carriers for recirculation in the CLC unit.

Integrated calcium looping combined cycle for sour gas applications

A calcium looping combustion process for sour gas combustion comprising a system that includes several reaction zones. The system is configured to provide oxygen transfer media production, generation of a syngas product stream, and in-situ HS removal from the sour gas. The system is also configured such that the calcium-based transfer media and the calcium-based oxygen carrier are reproduced via reactions in another reaction zone, and recirculated in the system.

Calcium sulfate looping cycles for sour gas combustion and electricity production

A process for power generation using a chemical looping combustion concept is integrated with heavy liquid fuel coking in a cracking reactor, and is configured such that petcoke deposits on metal oxide particles from the cracking reactor are used as fuel in the chemical looping combustion reaction. The process is also configured such that metal oxide particles provide the heat necessary for the cracking reaction to be initiated in the cracking reactor.

An improved chemical looping combustion (CLC) process and system includes a hopper containing oxygen carrier particles, e.g., metal oxides, that are gravity fed at a controlled rate of flow from the hopper into (a) a generally vertical downflow reactor where they are mixed with all of the hydrocarbon fuel feed to the system and (b) into one or more standpipes that are in communication with a plurality of staged fluidized reactor beds, the amount of the oxygen carrier particles introduced into the system being stoichiometrically predetermined to produce a syngas mixture of Hand CO; or to complete combustion of the fuel to COand water vapor, thereby permitting capture of a majority of the COproduced in an essentially pure form.

Chemical looping combustion process with multiple fuel reaction zones and gravity feed of oxidized particles

A chemical looping combustion (CLC) process for sour gas combustion includes a number of reaction zones and is configured to provide in-situ oxygen production and in-situ removal of SOfrom a product gas stream by reacting the SOwith a calcium-based sorbent at a location within one reaction zone. The CLC process is also configured such that the in-situ oxygen production results from the use of a metal oxide oxygen carrier which is purposely located such that it does not directly contact the sour gas, thereby eliminating the generation of undesirable sulfur-based metal oxides.
