Sidelink relay and remote sidelink devices of a sidelink group negotiate a distributed sidelink control channel sensing arrangement such that one sidelink device monitors control channel sensing occasions during a configured sensing period corresponding to the monitoring sielink device while other members of the group sleep their respective control channel sensing circuitry. More than one member of the group may be awake during a configured channel sensing reporting occasion that is used to communicate available channel resource reports among group members. A report may be unicast, multicast, or broadcast, and may be transmitted in a SCI. Group members may be configured to transmit or receive an interruption request that requests by a non-sensing member a partial available channel resource report from a group member that is currently sensing. The partial report may be transmitted before the configured reporting occasion.

Sidelink control channel sensing

A radio access network node determines a change in condition of traffic directed to a user equipment. The condition change may comprise jitter caused by a core network component or the condition change may comprise lack of traffic to transmit to the user equipment. The node may determine an offset to compensate for the jitter and transmit the offset to the user equipment, to be used by the user equipment to modify previously-scheduled semipersistent scheduling occasions. The node transmits the jitter-altered downlink traffic according to semipersistent scheduling occasions that have been modified by the offset. If no traffic data is present at the node to transmit to the user equipment, the node may transmit an activate/deactivate indication to be used by the user equipment to deactivate monitoring of a previously-scheduled semipersistent scheduling occasion or to activate monitoring of a different occasion resource.

Traffic condition aware semipersistent scheduling

A UE is configured to monitor a first control channel search space and information retrieved therefrom is used to not only decode data traffic having a first characteristic but to decode a second search space. Information retrieved from the second search space is used to decode data traffic having a second characteristic that is different from the first characteristic. The different characteristics may be different QoS levels and/or flow/service priority levels. The UE may be configured to decode the first downlink control channel search space according to a device-specific scrambling code specific to the UE or according to a service-type-specific scrambling code. The UE may monitor and decode a wake-up indication control channel search space to determine whether to wake up and monitor the first control channel search space.

Control channel resource optimization in a radio access network

An extended reality appliance may receive a configured interlink offset value corresponding to transmission delay between the appliance and an extended reality processing unit, which may facilitate relaying of traffic between the appliance and a radio access network node. The appliance may determine a transmission delay corresponding to transmission of traffic directly to the node. The appliance may determine a remaining delay budget corresponding to buffered traffic. If the appliance determines that the transmission delay plus the interlink offset value is greater than the remaining delay budget, the appliance may generate a partial buffer status report indicative only of buffered traffic corresponding to the remaining delay budget that is less than the transmission delay plus the interlink offset. The appliance may transmit the buffered traffic directly to the node according to resources granted by the node in response to the partial buffer status report.

Delay-aware transmission point selection

In a sidelink aggregation group, a primary user equipment may receive from one or more secondary user equipment user equipment information that may comprise device identifiers, flow identifiers, flow quality indicators, decoding information, or decrypting information. The primary user equipment may transmit the user equipment information to a radio access network node in an aggregation request. The node may respond with a paging alignment response signaling message that may indicate that paging indications for one or more of the secondary user equipment are accepted to be aligned/combined in an aggregation downlink message. The primary user equipment may wake up to decode an aggregation downlink message at a scheduled paging occasion, and while awake decode paging occasions, directed to secondary user equipment, contained in the aggregation downlink message. Data traffic directed to a secondary user equipment may be transmitted to a primary user equipment at a data rate corresponding thereto.

Adaptive downlink device aggregation

A radio access network node generates a physical random access channel configuration and transmits the configuration to a user equipment. The user equipment may use multiple and different uplink resources indicated in the configuration to transmit multiple preamble portions to the radio access network node based on signal strengths corresponding to available downlink beams. The preamble portions may be the same preamble, different preambles assigned in the configuration to a beam ranking index that are to be transmitted in different uplink resources associated with downlink beams ranked by the user equipment according to signal strength, or different parts of a long spread-preamble. The radio access network node may combine the preamble portions to obtain a single preamble or may request a strongest beam indication from the user equipment if a preamble portion was received in a signal corresponding to a less-than-strongest downlink beam available to the user equipment.

Coverage extension of random access channels

A user equipment may receive from a network node a payload notification configuration comprising baseline notification priorities levels and notification priority increment values associated with identifiers of traffic flows. The user equipment may generate a status message, comprising status indications corresponding to payload corresponding to the traffic flows received by the user equipment, to be transmitted according to uplink control channel occasion resources. The user equipment may prioritize status indications in the status message according to baseline notification priorities indicated in the payload notification configuration and based on capacity of the occasion resources to accommodate the status indications. A baseline notification priority corresponding to a status indication not included in the status message may be increased by a notification priority increment such that the status indication is prioritized higher than another status indication, corresponding in the payload notification configuration to a higher baseline notification priority, in a next status message.

Adaptive retransmission of non-terrestrial payload

A control channel search space granted by a RAN node to a first UE processing packets of a latency-tolerant traffic flow is configured as a preemption candidate search space. A second UE processing a less-latency-tolerant traffic flow may be granted the preemption candidate to facilitate delivery of control information. The RAN may configure the UEs with a preemption search space that may provide preemption configuration or preemption notification information that facilitates the second UE searching the preemption candidate and may notify the first UE that the preemption candidate previously granted thereto has been granted to the second UE. The first UE may sleep during a configured preemption validity period or until a next DRX cycle search opportunity. The RAN may dynamically configure the first UE with a complementary search space when the RAN determines that the second UE needs to use the preemption candidate search space.

Preemption and allocation of a control channel resource in a radio access network

A user equipment transmits, to a RAN node, application-specific information that may comprise quality of service class identifiers associated with traffic flows corresponding to the application. Responsive to the application-specific information, the user equipment receives, from the node, configuration information corresponding to an application-specific downlink search space, which may be monitored or decoded using the configuration information by the user equipment to determine a joint downlink-uplink configuration. The joint downlink-uplink configuration may indicate downlink resources to use for receiving application-flow-specific downlink traffic and the joint downlink-uplink configuration may indicate uplink resources to be used to transmit application-flow-specific uplink traffic that is linked to, or corresponds to, the application-flow-specific downlink traffic. The user equipment may be configured to transmit an estimated buffer status report indicating estimated uplink traffic to be transmitted corresponding to application-flow-specific downlink traffic.

Dynamic scheduling of paired downlink and uplink traffic

A radio access network node transmits a packet discard indication to configure a user equipment with indications that the node may discard packets corresponding to an indicated flow or corresponding to a flow received via an indicated resource. The packet discard indication configures the user equipment not to send a negative acknowledgement that a packet was not received via an indicated flow upon receiving an out-of-sequence packet corresponding to the indicated flow. The packet discard indication may configure the user equipment to decode a packet discarded from a flow indicated as being discarding-enabled via an indicated resource of an alternative target flow that may have a different quality-of-service, latency, or reliability than the flow to which the discarded packet belongs. The node may offload transmission of a packet discarded from a discarding-enabled flow to a flow indicated as an alternative target flow designated for offloading in the packet discard indication.

Dynamic packet re-ordering, discarding, and flow switching

A radio access network node configures a user equipment with a delay status report reporting configuration, which may comprise a remaining latency budget criterion. The user equipment may analyze a traffic packet stored in a buffer to determine whether the remaining latency budget criterion is violated. If a violation of a remaining latency budget criterion has occurred, the user equipment may transmit a delay status report to the node. If the violation of the remaining latency budget criterion corresponds to an occurrence count that violates a remaining latency budget violation count criterion, the user equipment may adjust a remaining latency budget criterion to result in an adjusted remaining latency budget criterion, which may be used for generation and transmission of future delay status reports corresponding to packets stored in the buffer in the future. A remaining latency budget criterion may be adjusted based on a change in buffered traffic volume.

Dynamic reporting of packet delay status information

A user equipment requests from a RAN node skipping of paging occasions that the RAN node otherwise may schedule for UEs uniformly throughout the area that the RAN serves. The RAN assigns the UE to a device-type classification based on battery parameters or service type of the UE. The RAN modifies scheduling of paging occasions to the UE, and others in a class that comprises the UE, based on the device-classification. The UE may submit to the RAN defined types of traffic, paging occasions for which the UE should not skip. The RAN may transmit in a paging skipping preemption search space an indication for the UE not to skip an upcoming configured paging occasion configured for skipping. The RAN may configure the UE with a paging pattern to use when UE conditions change, such as when an idle UE moves into range of another RAN.

Adaptive paging in wireless communication networks

An application running on a user equipment determines a retransmission request indication for a packet that was not successfully decoded based on a criticality, or quality-of-service requirement, from a retransmission request configuration, which may correspond to a traffic flow managed by the user equipment. The retransmission request indication may correspond to a criteria range in a retransmission request configuration. The application at the user equipment may determine a latency criteria range to use to determine a retransmission request indication based on a sensed degradation of user experience corresponding to the traffic flow. The user equipment may transmit the retransmission request indication to a network node, which may prioritize scheduling of retransmission of the failed-decoding packet or transmission of new packets according to a priority indicated in the retransmission request indication. A combination of retransmission request indications may be indicated by a compression index determined by the user equipment.

Latency-aware scheduling of packet transmission

A RAN configures user equipment members of a sidelink group with mapping of a criterion to various quality of service violation levels associated with a data traffic flow. A violation level indicates how close a member is to violating a quality-of-service limit such as a latency limit. Members analyze a parameter measurement such as latency relative to the criterion, determine respective violation levels, and share, in an SCI, the respective violation levels with each other. A member having a higher violation level than another may preempt resources currently granted to the other. The preempting device may transmit an indication of the resource preemption. Sharing of the respective violation levels may occur during a configured sidelink-group-common DRX active period that is different from a device-specific DRX active period. A sidelink search space may be used to indicate, with an SCI, traffic destined to a member in a configured grant-free resource.

Latency and reliability improvements for sidelink service

A resource may be monitored and decoded by sidelink user equipment device, according to a configuration, to receive a portion of a sidelink traffic flow without the resource being scheduled via a control channel. The configured resource may be semi-static insofar as it may occur grant-free instead of being scheduled, but the configuration for using the semi-static resource, as well as the resource itself, may change as changes occur to members of a sidelink group of which the user equipment is a member. A sidelink search space may be used to indicate, with an SCI, traffic destined to a member in the configured grant-free resource.
