Techniques for optical resolution determination from barcode chart images are described herein. In an example, a computer system receives an image captured by an image acquisition system having a camera with a lens. The image is of a chart including barcode sets arranged in one or more orientations with respect to an optical axis of the camera, and individual barcodes of a barcode set have a barcode attribute. The computer system decodes the barcode sets in the image using a barcode decoder. The computer system determines, for individual barcode attributes and for individual orientations, a number of decoded barcodes in the barcode sets that match encoded information stored in a barcode manifest. The computer system determines a resolution metric of the image acquisition system for a target barcode decode rate based on a distribution of a decode rate associated with the barcode attribute for the decoded barcodes.

Optical resolution determination from barcode chart images

Techniques for guiding camera focusing using barcode images are described herein. In an example, a computer system receives an image of a calibration target having a center that is aligned with an optical axis of a camera that generated the image. The calibration target includes steps that are located at different depths with respect to a lens of the camera. The calibration target includes barcode sets. Individual barcodes of a barcode set have a barcode attribute. The computer system decodes the barcode sets in the image and determines a set of decoded barcodes of the barcode sets. The computer system determines, for individual steps, a sharpness metric based on the barcode attribute of individual barcodes of the set of decoded barcodes and determines an adjustment of a focal plane of the lens based on the sharpness metric for the individual steps.

Guided camera focusing using barcode images

A camera device may capture a high-resolution image of a frame and store the high-resolution image in memory. The camera device may down-sample the high-resolution image to a low-resolution image of the frame. The camera device may transmit, to an external compute node, the low-resolution image. The camera device may receive, from the external compute node, a request for a region of interest from the high-resolution image. The camera device may transmit, to the external compute node, the region of interest from the high-resolution image. The camera device may have a captured frame rate at which high-resolution images are captured. The camera device may also have an external frame rate based upon which all, or only some, of the high-resolution images may be down-sampled to low-resolution images that are transmitted to the external compute node. The external frame rate may be decoupled from the captured frame rate.
