A method for producing a streak-suppressed magnetic resonance (MR) image of a subject includes generating an interference covariance matrix {circumflex over ( )}R front N coil images Ij (x,y), j={1, 2, . . . , N}, each of the N coil images Ij (x,y) corresponding to MR signals detected by a respective one of a phased array of N coils of an MRI scanner. The MR signals originate in voxels of the subject corresponding to an artifact-corrupted region of a coil image. Coordinates (x,y) correspond to a location within a cross-sectional plane of the subject. The method also includes, for subject-regions of cross-sectional plane centered at a respective location (x,y), determining a coil weight vector W (x,y) from {circumflex over ( )}R. The method also includes generating the streak-suppressed MR image as a weighted sum of the coil images Ij (x,y), each weight of the weighted sum being Wj* (x,y), a jelement of a complex conjugate of coil weight vector W (x,y).

MRI streak-artifact suppression, system and method

A method for producing a streak-suppressed MR image of a subject includes (i) generating an interference correlation matrix from M coil images, (ii) producing eigenvectors of the interference correlation matrix, and (iii) determining, from the subspace-eigenvectors, a projection matrix of the interference null space. The subspace-eigenvectors include a plurality of subspace-eigenvectors that span an interference subspace and a plurality of null-space-eigenvectors that span an interference null space. Described here are systems and methods for estimating phase measurements obtained using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system such that phase ambiguities in the measurements are significantly mitigated. Echo time spacings are determined by optimizing phase ambiguity functions associated with the echo time spacings. Data is then acquired using a multi-echo pulse sequence that utilizes the determined echo spacings. Phase measurements are then estimated and images are reconstructed using a reconstruction technique that disambiguates the phase ambiguities in the phase measurements.

A method of rate-control for a sequence of scalably coded images having transform coefficients partitioned into coding units coded in a plurality of quality increments having respective significance values. The method defines subsets each having one or more coding units, at least one image contributing at least one coding unit to two or more subsets. A list of requirements (LOR) is set having a least one entry associated with each subset. The significance values are used to select quality increments to construct an admissible codestream that satisfies the LOR on the subsets. The quality increments may be selected to achieve high quality for different subsets subject to size requirements in the LOR. For certain requirements, the codestream will also exhibit approximately constant reconstructed image quality. The quality increments may also be selected to achieve small compressed sizes for different subsets subject to quality requirements in the LOR.

Rate control of scalably coded images

The present invention provides a method for decoding corrupt codestreams for encoded digital imagery and video and, in particular, JPEG2000 codestreams with improved error resilience properties. The decoding techniques apply to a class of coding algorithms in which the data from underlying images are partitioned, typically to allow decoding of different spatial sections of the image, and the rules governing the dependencies within and perhaps between partitioned sets are known. Corrupt codestreams are decoded with improved image quality by observing the partitions imposed by the underlying algorithm (), detecting an error in a partition set (), analyzing the dependencies within and perhaps between the partitions (), determining what sections of encoded data that follow the error in the partition set can be salvaged (), and decoding those sections ().
