A design application is configured to visualize and explore large-scale generative design datasets. The design explorer includes a graphical user interface (GUI) engine that generates a design explorer, a composite explorer, and a tradeoff explorer. The design explorer displays a visualization of a multitude of design options included in a design space. The design explorer allows a user to filter the design space based on input parameters that influence a generative design process as well as various design characteristics associated with the different design options. The composite explorer displays a fully interactive composite of multiple different design options. The composite explorer exposes various tools that allow the user to filter the design space via interactions with the composite. The tradeoff explorer displays a tradeoff space based on different rankings of design options. The different rankings potentially correspond to competing design characteristics specified by different designers.

Techniques for visualizing and exploring large-scale generative design datasets

In one embodiment, a model generator generates a new model for a behavior of a system based on an existing, authoritative model. First, a mapping generator generates a mapping model that maps authoritative values obtained via the authoritative model to measured values that represent the behavior of the system. Subsequently, the model generator creates the new model based on the authoritative model and the mapping model. In this fashion, the mapping model indirectly transforms the authoritative model to the new model based on the measured values. Advantageously, the authoritative model enables the model generator to increase a rate of accuracy improvement experienced while developing the new model compared to a rate of accuracy improvement that would be experienced were the new model to be generated based on conventional modeling techniques. In particular, for a given sampling budget, the model generator improves the accuracy of the new model.

Techniques for modeling behaviors of systems via transformations of authoritative models

One embodiment of the present invention provides a technique for generating a three-dimensional model from a two-dimensional sketch. The technique includes receiving input indicating a set of points defining a first sketch element and a second set of points defining a second sketch element included in a sketch. The technique further includes identifying one or more design relationships between the first sketch element and the second sketch element. The technique further includes generating a computer model of the sketch that represents a structure linking the first sketch element and the second sketch element according to the one or more design relationships. The technique further includes outputting the first sketch element, the second sketch element, and the structure for display.
