A process for the treatment of a hydrocracking unit bottoms stream containing heavy poly-nuclear aromatic (HPNA) compounds and/or a fresh hydrocracking feedstock stream containing HPNA precursors to produce coke. The HPNA and/or HPNA precursors are removed from the hydrocracking unit bottoms stream and/or a fresh hydrocracking feedstock stream by solvent washing, and the HPNA and/or HPNA precursors are subjected to delayed coking for the production of coke.

A process for treating a hydrocarbon stream to remove polynuclear aromatic (PNA) and heavy polynuclear aromatic (HPNA) compounds includes contacting the hydrocarbon stream with an adsorbent in an adsorption unit to adsorb the PNA and HPNA compounds onto the adsorbent to produce a treated hydrocarbon stream and regenerating the adsorbent. Regenerating the adsorbent may include contacting the adsorbent with a solvent comprising a disulfide oil, such as a disulfide oil effluent from a mercaptan oxidation unit. The solvent comprising the disulfide oil desorbs the PNA and HPNA compounds from the adsorbent into the solvent to produce a desorption effluent. The treated hydrocarbon stream can be passed to a hydrocracking unit that hydrocracks the treated hydrocarbon stream to produce a hydrocracker effluent that includes greater value petrochemical products or intermediates.

Adsorption systems and processes for recovering PNA and HPNA compounds from petroleum based materials and regenerating adsorbents

Hydrocracked bottoms fractions are treated to separate HPNA compounds and/or HPNA precursor compounds and produce a reduced-HPNA hydrocracked bottoms fraction effective for recycle. A process for separation of HPNA and/or HPNA precursor compounds from a hydrocracked bottoms fraction of a hydroprocessing reaction effluent comprises contacting the hydrocracked bottoms fraction with heteropoly acid compounds to promote adsorption of HPNAs onto the heteropoly acids and to produce a heteropoly acid treated hydrocracked bottoms fraction, that is recycled within the hydrocracking operation.

In accordance with one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, a process for treating a hydrocarbon feedstream having nitrogen-containing compounds and polynuclear aromatic compounds includes contacting the hydrocarbon feedstream with an adsorbent material; introducing the adsorbent-treated hydrocarbon feedstream to a hydrocracking reaction unit to produce a hydrocracked effluent stream; introducing a naphtha stream to a catalytic reforming unit to produce a reformate stream; introducing the reformate stream to an aromatic recovery complex to produce a light reformate stream, a BTX stream, and an aromatic bottoms stream; and introducing the aromatic bottoms stream to the used adsorbent to release at least a portion of the nitrogen-containing compounds and polynuclear compounds.

Process for the treatment of heavy oils using light hydrocarbon components as a diluent

The invention relates to a method for removing sulfur from crude oils using a catalytic hydrotreating process operating at moderate temperature and pressure and reduced hydrogen consumption. The process produces sweet crude oil having a sulfur content of between about 0.1 and 1.0 wt % in addition to reduced crude density. The method employs least two reactors in series, wherein the first reactor includes a hydroconversion catalyst and the second reactor includes a desulfurization catalyst.
