A process for upgrading a hydrocarbon feed to produce light olefins, includes contacting the hydrocarbon feed with steam in the presence of a cracking catalyst in a steam catalytic cracking reactor at reaction conditions sufficient to cause at least a portion of the hydrocarbons in the hydrocarbon feed to undergo one or more cracking reactions to produce a steam catalytic cracking effluent comprising ethylene, propylene, or both, wherein the process is capable of being transitioned between an ethylene-selective mode and a propylene-selective mode; determining whether to produce ethylene or propylene; when producing ethylene, then operating the process in ethylene-selective mode comprises producing more ethylene than propylene; or when producing propylene, then operating the process in propylene-selective mode comprises producing more propylene than ethylene.

Process configurations for enhancing light olefin selectivity by steam catalytic cracking of heavy feedstock

A process to produce pitch, the process comprising the steps of introducing a depressurized effluent to a flash column; separating the depressurized effluent in the flash column to produce a liquid product; introducing the liquid product to a dweller; operating the dweller at a temperature between 350&#xb0; C. and 500&#xb0; C., a pressure between 0.1 psig and 10 psig, and a residence time between 30 minutes and 4 hours to produce a pitch stream and a reaction gas stream, wherein the dweller is a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR), wherein dehydrogenative polymerization reactions occur in the dweller to produce pitch, wherein the inert gas stream is operable to remove volatile components from the liquid product; removing a pitch stream from the dweller, wherein the pitch stream comprises the pitch; and removing a reaction gas stream, wherein the reaction gas stream comprises the volatile components and nitrogen.

Production of petroleum pitch

Embodiments of the disclosure provide a system and method for producing light olefins from a crude oil. A crude oil feed is introduced to a crude distillation unit to produce a distillate fraction and a residue fraction. The distillate fraction is introduced to a non-catalytic steam cracker to produce a light olefin fraction and a pyrolysis oil fraction. The residue fraction is introduced to a supercritical water reactor to produce an effluent stream. The effluent stream is introduced to a flash separator to produce a gas phase fraction and a liquid phase fraction. The gas phase fraction is introduced to a catalytic steam cracker to produce a light olefin fraction and a pyrolysis oil fraction. Optionally, the residue fraction is introduced to a vacuum distillation unit to produce a light vacuum gasoil fraction, a heavy vacuum gasoil fraction, and a vacuum residue fraction. The vacuum residue fraction is introduced to a solvent deasphalting unit to produce a deasphalted oil and a pitch fraction. The deasphalted oil fraction, optionally combined with the heavy vacuum gasoil fraction, can be introduced to the supercritical water reactor in lieu of the residue fraction.

Method to produce light olefins from crude oil

Embodiments of the disclosure provide a method and system for recycling a plastic material to produce hydrocarbons. A plastic feed and a water feed are introduced to a first stage reactor. The first stage reactor is operated at a pressure equal to or greater than 22.06 MPa and a temperature equal to or greater than 373.9 deg. C. to produce an effluent stream. Residual solid components can be removed from the effluent stream. The effluent stream is introduced to a second stage reactor. The second stage reactor is operated at a pressure less than that of the first stage reactor but equal to or greater than 22.06 MPa and a temperature greater than that of the first stage reactor to produce a product stream. The plastic feed can include polyolefins. Optionally, a sulfur additive feed can be introduced either to the first stage reactor or the second stage reactor. Optionally, a residual oil feed can be introduced either to the first stage reactor or the second stage reactor.
