The process for the TIG alternating-current welding of aluminum using an inert-gas mixture of helium and argon uses an inert-gas mixture of 83 to 95% by volume of helium, the remainder being predominantly argon.

Process for the TIG alternating-current welding of aluminum

The invention relates to a protective gas for TIG welding of metals, especially high alloy or low alloy steel, whose thermal conductivity is lower than that of aluminium. The inventive gas consists of argon, helium and hydrogen and enables significant improvements to be made in electric arc stability, welding speed, oxidation of weld surface and adjacent area, flow-on performance and weld appearance.

Protective gas for tig welding

In the laser welding of aluminum, argon, helium and mixtures thereof are used as protective gases. To improve the welding behavior, 80 vpm to 250 vpm, preferably 120 vpm to 180 vpm of nitrogen, nitrous oxide or nitrogen/nitrous oxide mixture are added to the protective gas.

Argon having a high degree of purity or else a mixture having a high degree of purity consisting of argon, helium, hydrogen, oxygen and/or carbon dioxide are used as the inert gas for TIG, MIG, MAG and plasma welding. For purposes of improving the welding result, 80 ppm to 250 ppm, preferably 120 ppm to 180 ppm of nitrogen are added to the inert gas.

A shielding gas for the arc welding of aluminum consists of argon or mixtures of argon and helium. The shielding gas also includes an admixture of 80 ppm to 250 ppm of nitrogen.
