A wiring system includes a wiring module and a functional module. The wiring module in at least one embodiment includes elongated holes or openings which are configured to engage or lock with prongs on a functional module to create a lockable connection. The wiring module and the functional module form both a physical and an electrical connection. In another embodiment, there is an adapter which is configured to connect the wiring module and the functional module or unit together.

Modular wiring system with locking elements

A wiring system includes a wiring module and a functional module. The wiring module in at least one embodiment includes elongated holes or openings which are configured to engage or lock with prongs on a functional module to create a lockable connection. The wiring module and the functional module form both a physical and an electrical connection. In another embodiment, the wiring module has at least three elongated openings or holes, and wherein one of the openings or holes is for receiving a ground prong, while the other openings or holes are for receiving prongs which conduct electricity or communicate information. In another embodiment there is a wiring module that has four elongated openings or holes with all four of these connections associated with the four elongated openings or holes configured to conduct electricity.

Modular connector

A modular wiring system comprising a functional unit and a wiring unit. There is also a system for coupling the functional unit to the wiring unit in a rotational manner. This system can be formed from at least one locking prong comprised of electrically conductive material. When the functional unit is coupled to the wiring unit, the locking prong is both electrically and physically coupled to the functional unit at a first end and to the wiring unit at a second end. Alternatively, or in addition, the system for coupling the functional unit to the wiring unit in a rotational manner can include at least one flange coupled to the functional unit and at least one flange coupled to the wiring unit. These flanges operate such that when the functional unit and the wiring unit are coupled together, they are rotated to form a locking connection between the flange on the functional unit and the flange on the wiring unit.

An electrical connector, such as one for receiving a plug, having at least two prongs for insertion into the connector, and having an electrical cable connected to the prongs of the plug and the connector in the usual way, includes a series circuit having an LED. The LED is located within the connector behind a window, and light from the LED provides a visual indication to a user that the connector is connected to a live circuit. The series circuit is located in a module that can be pre-assembled before being located within the connector and, when in the connector, the series circuit is electrically coupled directly to the contacts in the connector by means of spring contacts located in passageways in the module. Indexing means is provided for aligning the LED in the module with the window in the connector to insure that a user can see if the LED is on or off.

Live circuit indicator for plugs and receptacles

This invention is directed to a receptacle having an indictor which identifies the receptacle as being a hospital grade receptacle. The indicator can be a green colored window in the face of the receptacle that is always visible. A light emitting means such as a light emitting diode located behind the window and coupled across the phase and neutral contacts of the receptacle provides a positive indication that the receptacle is connected to a live circuit.

A cover plate device for covering a wall mounted wiring device having no visible fasteners when installed. An attachment plate is attached over and to a wiring device which has been mounted in and to a ganged box mounted adjacent an aperture in a wall. Latch pawls are arranged at the opposite longitudinal ends of the attachment plate. A cover plate member overlies the wiring device and ganged box and provides a series of recesses to receive the associated pawls in locking arrangement. Because of the number of recesses available at each pawl location, the cover plate can still be installed even if the wall is not flat or even. The attachment plate and cover plate member can be provided with various types and numbers of apertures, and the number of pawls and groups of recesses employed depend on the size of the attachment and cover plate members.
