Computing device expansion modules and control of their operation based on temperature are disclosed. According to an aspect, an expansion module includes an interface configured to operably connect to a computing device including a service manager. Further, the expansion module includes a controller configured to determine whether communication with the service manager of the computing device is enabled or not enabled. The controller is also configured to set a first temperature level at which operation of the expansion module is reduced in response to determining that communication with the service manager is enabled. Further, the controller is configured to set a second temperature level at which operation of the expansion module is reduced in response to determining that communication with the service manager is not enabled. The second temperature level is lower than the first temperature level.

Address verification on a bus, the bus connecting a plurality of receiving bus nodes and one or more sending bus nodes, the bus providing communication among the bus nodes, including: receiving, by a receiving bus node over the bus, a parity signal and an address signal, the address signal identifying an address of a target receiving bus node; determining, by the receiving bus node, whether the address of the target receiving bus node matches an address of the receiving bus node; responsive to determining that the address of the target receiving bus node matches the address of the receiving bus node, determining, by the receiving bus node, whether the parity signal is an expected parity signal; and responsive to determining that the parity signal is not the expected parity signal, suppressing, by the receiving bus node, an acknowledgment of receipt of the address signal.

Systems and methods for determining an operational condition of a capacitor package are disclosed. According to an aspect, a system may include a capacitor package including a dielectric material operatively connected between a first terminal and a second terminal. The system may include a Zener diode being operatively connected with its cathode at a third terminal and its anode at the second terminal. The system may also include a test pin being conductively connected to the third terminal. The system may also include a testing module configured to receive an electrical output from the test pin. The testing module may also be configured to determine an operational condition of the capacitor package based on the electrical output. The testing module may further be configured to present the operational condition of the capacitor package.

A system, method and a computer program product for performing the method are provided. The system includes a communication device installed in a vehicle, wherein the communication device is configured to receive a wireless network broadcast message including target criteria other than a network identifier, and output the broadcast message to a user if the communication device satisfies the target criteria. The method includes determining a current location of a first mobile communication device, and the first device sending a message containing target criteria associated with a target vehicle over a wireless data network, wherein the target criteria does not include a network identifier. The method further includes broadcasting the message containing the target criteria over a geographically-specific area including the current location of the first mobile communication device, wherein only a second mobile communication device satisfying the target criteria will receive and display the message.

Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for dynamically managing social networking groups according to embodiments of the present invention are provided. A particular embodiment includes detecting a predetermined number of user devices within a specified physical area; and in response to detecting the predetermined number of user devices within the specified physical area, creating a social networking group corresponding to the specified physical area. Another embodiment includes detecting a predetermined number of user devices exiting a specified physical area, each user device associated with a user belonging to a social networking group corresponding to the specified physical area; and in response to detecting the predetermined number of user devices exiting the specified physical area, destroying the social networking group after a duration following the detection of the predetermined number of users of the social networking group exiting the specified physical area.

A method of detecting a cable connected to a first device includes generating a second signal within the first device, and outputting the second signal onto an input-only pin of a cable connector on the first device, wherein the input-only pin is assigned to receive a first signal from a driver on a second device when a cable is connected from the second device to the cable connector, and wherein the second signal has a frequency that is at least four times greater than the frequency of the first signal. The method further comprises determining that a cable is not connected to the cable connector in response to detecting the second signal on a wire coupled to the input-only pin, and determining that the cable is connected to the cable connector in response to detecting a signal other than the second signal.

Embodiments provide for a cable connector for coupling a cable with a device having a mating connector. The cable connector includes a cable connector body having a device end, a cable end, a bottom side, and a pivot point on the bottom side between the device and cable ends. Also, the cable connector includes a strut having a first strut end pivotally coupled with the pivot point and a second strut end. The strut is operable to rotate between a retracted position and an actuated position. The second strut end is adapted to engage the device on a surface of the device below the mating connector in the actuated position.

A cable detection apparatus comprises a cable connector, a signal generator, and a detection module. The cable connector is located on a first device and has an input-only pin that is coupled to a receiver and assigned for receiving a first signal from a driver on a second device. The signal generator is located within the first device and has an output driving a second signal onto the input-only pin, wherein the second signal has a frequency that is at least four times greater than the frequency of the first signal. The detection module has a detection input coupled to the input-only pin, wherein the detection module produces a negative cable detection output in response to detecting the second signal, and wherein the detection module produces a positive cable detection output in response to detecting a signal other than the second signal.

Computer readable program instructions perform a method including identifying a starting location and a destination for traveling in a vehicle and identifying multiple available routes. Each route includes roadway segments that have a roadway type selected from multiple roadway types reflecting a set of roadway conditions. The method obtains a fuel price available to the vehicle, obtains a fuel economy value for the vehicle on each roadway type, and calculates a cost of driving each of a plurality of available routes. The cost of driving each available route is the sum of the cost of driving each segment of the route, wherein the cost of driving each roadway segment is the mathematical product of a length of the roadway segment and the available fuel price divided by the fuel economy for the vehicle on the roadway type for the roadway segment. The lowest cost route is then identified.

Error detection and correction of a data transmission, including: receiving a block of data, where the block includes a predefined number of words, with each word including a parity bit, where the block of data also an error-correcting code (ECC); determining, for each word in dependence upon the parity bit of the word, whether the word of the block includes a parity error; committing each word that does not include a parity error, if only one word of the block includes a parity error: correcting the one word that includes the parity error through use of the ECC of the block and committing the corrected word.

Updating programmable logic devices ('PLDs') in a symmetric multiprocessing ('SMP') computer, each compute node of the SMP computer including a PLD coupled for data communications through a bus adapter, the bus adapter adapted for data communications through a set of one or more input/output (&#x2018;I/O&#x2019;) memory addresses, including configuring the primary compute node with an update of the configuration instructions for the PLDs; assigning, by the PLDs at boot time in an SMP boot, a unique, separate set of one or more I/O addresses to each bus adapter on each compute node; and providing, by the primary compute node during the SMP boot, the update to all compute nodes, writing the update as a data transfer to each of the PLDs through each bus adapter at the unique, separate set of one or more I/O addresses for each bus adapter.

An apparatus includes a flexible support member having a first and second ends and a plurality of guides there between. The apparatus further includes an electrical generator having a magnet, an electrical coil surrounding the magnet, and a pair of electrical leads for delivering electrical current generated in the coil. A tensile member is connected between the first end of the support member and the magnet, wherein the tensile member extends along a path from the first end of the support member through the plurality of guides to the magnet. A spring element biases the magnet in a direction to impart tension to the tensile member. Deflection of the support member from a relaxed position to a deflected position modifies the length of the path of the tensile member to displace the magnet within the electrical coil and generate an electrical current.

Computer peripheral expansion apparatus, methods of operation, and computer program products including blade peripheral expansion units ('BPEUs'), each BPEU including a peripheral interconnect multiplexer coupled for peripheral interconnect data communications through an upstream peripheral interconnect bus ('PIB') segment to a host blade, the upstream PIB segment fanned out by the multiplexer into two or more peripheral downstream interconnect channels, the multiplexer connecting the upstream PIB segment to only one of the downstream channels at a time; and the two or more downstream peripheral interconnect channels, at least one of the downstream channels connected to at least one peripheral interconnect device (&#x2018;PID&#x2019;) in the BPEU, the peripheral interconnect device being a device that communicates with the host blade according to a peripheral interconnect data communications protocol, one of the downstream channels configured to connect to an upstream PIB segment in another BPEU.

Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for accessing a logic device through a serial interface are provided. Embodiments include receiving, by the serial interface of the logic device, a first data access request indicating a non-linear address mode, wherein the first data access request includes: a non-linear address corresponding to a non-linear index specifying a plurality of non-linear addresses, the non-linear index associating each non-linear address with one of the plurality of registers; a data count indicating an amount of data to be accessed in the first data access request; and a page offset value indicating within a register, a starting page to perform the first data access request. Embodiments also include identifying in the non-linear address mode a location within the logic device based on the non-linear address and the starting page; and performing at the identified location, by the logic device, a serial transaction in accordance with the first data access request.
