Method and apparatus for controlling differentially driven wheel slip

A drop center rim (11) of a fabricated heavy-duty industrial wheel (10) is fabricated from several pieces welded together and includes a backup ring (19) positioned within and welded to the inner periphery of a rim well (13). In some embodiments, each of a pair of reinforcing rings (34,36) has an L-shaped cross sectional configuration with an axially extending portion (37) extending into and welded to the inner periphery of the rim well and a radially extending portion (38) having its outer edge welded to the respective bead seat (14,16) of the rim (11). An annular mounting flange (12) is connected to one of the reinforcing or backup rings and extends radially inwardly therefrom.

Date Feb. 19, 1981 A hydraulic fluid brake system having a differential lock causes all of the torque from the engine to be delivered to the non-spinning wheel resulting in overloading of the components. By providing a non-locking differential (54) and a hydraulic fluid brake system (10), a controlled braking of the spinning wheel will provide a torque to the non-spinning wheel substantially equal to the torque from the braking of the spinning wheel and not allow the spinning wheel to be fully braked. The operator can selectively move a valve member (26) and maintain a modulated source of pressure (20) to the non-spinning wheel and controllably modulate the fluid pressure at the spinning wheel, thus controlling the braking effect of the brake on the spinning wheel. This arrangement controls the torque and eliminates harsh braking of an individual wheel.

Selective anti-spin brake system

A gate latch control system for dump body vehicles includes a hoist control member positionable between lower, hold and raise positions, a hoist lock member, a latch position sensor and a gate latch member positionable between latch and unlatch positions. The hoist lock member is connected to maintain the hoist control member against movement to the raise position when the sensor senses the gate latch member in the latch position and to permit movement of the hoist control member to the raise position when the latch position sensor senses the gate latch member in the unlatch position.

Dump body gate latch control system

Dual master cylinders are arranged to apply hydraulic pressure to a single set of vehicle brakes through a double check valve and single brake fluid conduit. A first of the master cylinders is actuated by compressed air in response to manipulation of an operator's service brake control, while the second master cylinder is actuated to a lesser extent by compressed air responsive to an operator's retarder control. A modulatable emergency brake control may independently and simultaneously actuate both master cylinders together with a third master cylinder coupled to separate brakes. Thus, braking capacity remains available if the service brake system or the retarder brake system or both should fail, or if the emergency system should itself fail while either the service system or the retarder system remains functional. Upon a significant lowering of emergency system air pressure, a warning is given to the operator who may then initiate controlled emergency braking until the air pressure reaches a predetermined minimum at which point all three master cylinders are automatically actuated and the brakes cannot be released until emergency system operating pressure is restored. Further means are present to warn of incipient failure of other parts of the system, and means are provided for optionally inactivating a portion of the vehicle brakes when not needed which means is overrideable by the emergency system described above. Further means speed response of the system to actuation and release of brake controls and provide for rapid automatic purging of air from the hydraulic portion of the system.

Brake master cylinder construction

A control system for a spring-applied service brake which can also be used as a parking brake. Pressure from the vehicle hydraulic system is normally used to release the brakes. In the event of a loss of the primary pressure from the hydraulic system, the control system switches automatically to use of secondary pressure from the vehicle compressed air system to release the brakes, while maintaining the ability of the operator to apply the brakes by normal operation of the service and parking brake controls.

Control system for an integral spring-loaded parking and service brake

The invention comprises a console attachable to a vehicle to control a transmission thereof. The console comprises an enclosure which includes a plate atop the enclosure. The plate includes an indentation which forms a trough therein and further includes a channel passing through the plate in an upraised portion thereof adjacent the trough. A gearshift regulator extends through the channel, the regulator serving to control the transmission of a vehicle. A parking brake actuator is recessed within the trough. The actuator serves to control a parking brake of the vehicle.

A roll protective structure is provided in which a roof panel and floor panel are detachably mounted thereto. The mounting means are such that structural rigidity is maintained while insuring that there is no metal-to-metal contact between the respective panels and cab structure. The respective panels also provide for sound insulation.

A vehicle dash assembly is provided with pivoting mount means which allows for greater accessibility to the dash mounted instrument and associated control members. A latching mechanism permits the dash assembly to be supported in the open position for servicing operations.
