The invention relates to a method of controlling insects in which compounds of the formula ##STR1## in free form or in agrochemically acceptable salt form, are used, wherein specific insects of the order Homoptera are controlled, to the corresponding use of those compounds, to corresponding insecticidal compositions, the active ingredient of which is selected from those compounds, and to a process for the preparation of and to the use of those compositions. The invention relates also to a method of protecting plant propagation material against attack by pests, wherein compounds of formula I, in free form or in agrochemically acceptable salt form, are used, to the corresponding use of those compounds, to corresponding pesticidal compositions, the active ingredient of which is selected from those compounds, to a process for the preparation of and to the use of those compositions, and to plant propagation material correspondingly protected against attack by pests.

Method of controlling insects

The novel 2R,4S-2-ethyl-4-[(4-phenoxyphenoxy)methyl]dioxolan of formula I ##STR1## can be used as a pesticide. It is used to control especially insects in fruit and citrus crops.

There are disclosed 1-[4-(halophenoxy)phenoxy]-4-pentines of formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently of the other chloro or fluoro and one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, a process for their preparation and intermediates for their preparation, the use of these compounds in pest control, and pesticidal compositions which contain a compound of formula I as active component. The preferred field of use is ovicidal control of pests.

Ethers useful for controlling pests

There are disclosed 1-[4-(halophenoxy)phenoxy]-4-pentines of formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently of the other chloro or fluoro and one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is also hydrogen, a process for their preparation and intermediates for their preparation, the use of these compounds in pest control, and pesticidal compositions which contains a compound of formula I as active component. The preferred field of use is ovicidal control of pests.

Ethers

The insecticidal and acaricidal activity of N-phenylthioureas can be enhanced and prolonged by the simultaneous application of photosensitizers, and this activity can also be effected within a shorter period of time after application.
