A filter connector is provided which is rugged and can be constructed at very low cost. The connector includes a front shell of metal which has a rearwardly-facing ledge, a circuit board device which includes a board of insulative material with a circuit layer on its rearward face, a rear insulator with a front portion lying within the rear of the front shell, and several contacts extending through holes in the circuit board device and insulator. The circuit layer includes capacitors around holes through which the contacts extends, with each contact soldered to a terminal of the capacitor, and the edge of the circuit soldered to the front shell. The rear insulator is molded in place to the circuit board device and within the rear of the front shell, with some of the insulator extending rearwardly of the front shell. The portion of the insulator extending rearwardly of the front shell is devoid of any metal shell immediately surrounding it.

D-subminature filter connector

An electrical connector containing contacts upon which there are mounted electrical circuit components. A component is mounted on the side of each contact. A ground plate in the connector shell embodies a spring tang for each contact that provides electrical connection between the component and the shell. Matching polarizing surfaces on each contact and the wall of its corresponding contact cavity correctly positions the contact so that the electrical component thereon will be engaged by the spring tang.

An electrical connector assembly is disclosed in which the receptacle coments are shielded by an electromagnetic radiation mask and in which no power is present at the front end of the receptacle when the receptacle is not connected to its mating electrical plug. Intermediate electrical contacts in the receptacle portion of the connector assembly completely close apertures in the mask when the receptacle is not mated and are moved from the mask apertures and into contact with the internal electrical conductors of the receptacle when engaged with the male electrical plug portion of the assembly.
