In an internal combustion engine comprising an exhaust gas turbocharger, including a turbine with at least two inlet passages arranged in the exhaust gas tract of the internal combustion engine, via which exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine can be supplied to a turbine wheel of the turbine, and a valve arrangement being arranged in to the exhaust gas tract to the turbocharger to control the supply of exhaust gas to the inlet passages of the turbine, a valve and turbine inlet passage configuration is selectable providing for a maximum braking power with low thermal load.

In a supercharged internal combustion engine having an intake duct and an exhaust gas recirculation system and comprising an exhaust gas turbine with two separate flow passages of different flow cross-sections arranged upstream of a turbine rotor of the exhaust gas turbine, each flow passage being in communication with a respective engine exhaust line for supplying it with exhaust gas and an exhaust gas recirculation line extending from one of the engine exhaust lines to the engine intake duct, a bypass line bypassing the exhaust gas turbine is provided and a common control element is arranged in the recirculation line of the exhaust gas recirculation system and in the bypass line for controlling the exhaust gas flow from the recirculation line selectively to none or any of the intake duct and the turbine bypass line.

Internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas turbocharger and an exhaust gas recirculation system

In an internal combustion engine having an exhaust system with a turbocharger including an exhaust gas turbine disposed in the engine exhaust duct, a bypass line connected to the exhaust duct upstream of the turbine including a valve for diverting exhaust gas flow and bypassing the turbine, the valve includes a valve body having first and second exhaust gas flow control openings of different flow cross-sections and being adjustable between a first position in which the first flow control openings is in communication with the exhaust gas duct, a second position in which the second flow control opening is in communication with the exhaust gas duct and a blocking position in which exhaust gas bypass flow through the valve is blocked.
