Apparatus and method for providing a visual indication of receipt of an electronic message by changing the color of at least a portion of a display formed of liquid crystal according to the message received. A first circuit receives an incoming signal, a second circuit identifies the incoming signal by comparing the incoming signal with stored signals, and a third circuit causes a predetermined voltage to be coupled to a predetermined area of the liquid crystal to cause the predetermined area to assume a predetermined color to call attention to the incoming message.

Apparatus for providing a visual indication of receipt of an electronic message

A timepiece that has an LCD face that changes color when the time changes between the A.M. and the P.M. to provide a pleasing esthetic appearance to the user. Further, the timepiece may have a manual control such as a button that may be depressed to cause the LCD face to change to any one of several colors as desired by the user.

Computerized method of displaying a self-reading child's book

A self-reading electronic child's book that displays a sequence of indicia, such as words, and having under each indicia a visual indicator such as a light-emitting diode with the visual indicators being automatically illuminated in sequence as the child touches a switch associated with each light-emitting diode to sequentially drive a voice synthesizer that audibilizes the indicia or word associated with the light and switch that was activated.

Self-reading child's book

An activated work comprising at least two turnable pages pivotably attached to one edge of each of the pages so that the pages are pivotable from a juxtaposed closed position to an adjacent opened position, a visual image display affixed to one of the pages, the visual image display having a first visual activation state at which a visual image is not visible thereon and a second visual activation state at which a visual image is visible thereon, a sound generator attached to the work having a first activation state at which an audible sound is not generated and a second activation state at which an audible sound is generated, connected to the visual display for selectively activating the visual display from one of the visual activation states to another upon pivoting the pages from the open position to the closed position, and connected to the sound generator for selectively activating the sound generator from one of the sound activation states to another upon pivoting the pages from the closed position to the opened position or from the opened position to the closed position.

Visual and audible activated work and method of forming same

The present invention relates to a novel and unique activated work such as a child's book or a greeting card having at least two turnable pages in juxtaposed relationship and which is formed having a portion thereof that is essentially invisible in a first state but visible in a second state. Electrical signals are coupled to the second portion for selectively and reversibly changing the second portion from the invisible to the visible state when the pages are moved from their juxtaposed relationship.

An electronic logic game comprising a device for simulating a balance scale in its balanced state or either of its unbalanced states, a plurality of simulated playing pieces one of which is simulated to be heavier or lighter than the others and selected ones of which may be symbolically placed on said simulated balance scale, and a device coupled to said simulated balance scale for detecting the presence or absence of the simulated heavier or lighter playing piece and simulating the scale to be balanced or unbalanced in a predetermined direction according to the presence or absence of the piece whereby the heavier or lighter piece may be logically discovered in a predetermined number of electronic scale balance or unbalance representations.
