An arrangement for generating oxygen in a facility is described, which arrangement has at least one unit for generating medical air (V, R), a vacuum system (VS), and a PSA unit (A), which serves to generate an oxygen product stream. According to the invention, the PSA unit (A) and the vacuum system (VS) are interconnected in such a way that the adsorber or adsorbers of the PSA unit (A) can be regenerated by means of the vacuum system (VS), and/or the unit for generating medical air (V, R) is connected to the PSA unit (A) in such a way that at least a subsidiary stream () of the generated medical air is delivered as feed gas to the PSA unit (A).

Generating oxygen in hospitals

In a PSA process, an adsorber loaded with adsorbable components is first expanded to an intermediate pressure and then subjected to a first purging step at this intermediate pressure. Thereafter, the adsorber is subjected to additional expansion to the lowest process pressure and optionally a second purging step.

Adsorbate recovery in PSA process

A method of obtaining work (e.g. electrical energy) in a counterpressure steam system in which the steam is expanded to produce work, e.g. drive an electrical current generator, in which the steam, prior to the expansion, is passed into isobaric heat exchange at an elevated pressure with expanded steam and is then heated substantially isobarically by externally supplied heat. After expansion and at a relatively low pressure, the steam is substantially isobarically cooled.
