A hydrokinetic torque coupling device comprises a casing, a torque converter, a torsional vibration damper and a lockup clutch disposed within the casing. The torque converter comprises an impeller and a turbine-piston coaxially aligned with the impeller and axially movable toward and away from the casing to position the hydrokinetic torque coupling device into and out of a lockup mode in which the turbine-piston is non-rotatably frictionally coupled to the casing. The torsional vibration damper comprises an input member non-moveably secured to the turbine-piston, a first retainer plate and the elastic members elastically coupling the input member to the first retainer plate. The input member includes an actuating portion configured to actuate the lockup clutch. The lockup clutch is disposed within the casing between the actuating portion of the input member and a cover shell of the casing for frictionally coupling the casing and the turbine-piston.

Hydrokinetic torque coupling device having axially movable turbine-piston and lockup clutch, and related methods

A hydrokinetic torque coupling device comprises a casing rotatable about a rotation axis, a torque converter including an impeller wheel and a turbine wheel disposed in the casing coaxially with the rotation axis, a locking piston including an annular piston body and a plurality of drive teeth unitary with the piston body, and a torsional vibration damper comprising a input member non-rotatably coupled to the drive teeth of the locking piston, elastic members and an output member elastically coupled to the input member trough the elastic members. The locking piston is axially moveable so as to selectively engage the locking piston against the casing. The input member has window-shaped mating openings complementary to each of the drive teeth. The drive teeth drivingly engage the mating openings of the input member so as to non-rotatably couple the locking piston and the input member.

A stator assembly of a hydrokinetic torque converter includes a stator rotatable about an axis and having a hub bore coaxial to the axis, the stator having a crimped portion, a one-way clutch mounted to the stator in the hub bore coaxially to the axis, and a retainer plate fixedly secured to the stator in hub bore by the crimped portion. A method for making a stator assembly of a hydrokinetic torque converter involves providing a stator having an axis and a hub bore that is coaxial with the axis, the hub bore containing a one-way clutch and an annular retainer plate, and crimping a portion of the stator to fixedly secure the one-way clutch and the annular retainer plate in the hub bore.

A turbine damper assembly, for a torque converter, includes a driven plate and an intermediate plate. The driven plate engages and drives the intermediate plate through elastic drive elements. The driven plate includes an axially extended, circumferentially oriented, driven plate flange that both centers the intermediate plate with respect to the drive plate and also assists in containing the elastic drive elements in circumferential curved cavities during and after assembly of the turbine damper assembly.

A hydrokinetic torque coupling device comprises a turbine, a driven plate non-rotatably attached to the turbine, circumferentially oriented torque transmitting elastic elements, and a friction disc including peripheral, axially extending driving tabs. The driven plate includes circumferentially oriented centering slots such that the axially extending driving tabs of the friction disc protrude into the centering slots and engage the elastic elements. A method for assembling a hydrokinetic torque converter involves providing a driven plate including circumferentially oriented centering slots, elastic elements and a friction disc including peripheral axially extending driving tabs, mounting the friction disc and the elastic elements to the driven plate so that the driving tabs of the friction disc and the driven plate engage the elastic elements, and centering the friction disc with respect to the driven plate by protruding the driving tabs into the centering slots of the driven plate.
