The invention relates to a sealing arrangement for a non-hermetic seal of a gap () between a stator and a rotor with a brush seal (), wherein the brush seal () has a bristle package () with several bristles (), the bristles are wound about a core element () and fixed to the core element (), wherein the brush seal () is disposed at least sectionally in an accommodating space, which is bounded by a supporting element () and a covering element (), and wherein the bristles () have sealing bristle sections (), which are at an angle to the bristle shafts () and the ends of which run against a sealing surface () of the rotor (). According to the invention, the covering element () has a support surface () at an end adjacent to the sealing bristle sections (), wherein the supporting surface () contacts the bristle shafts () in a defined, locally limited region, so that the radial mobility of the sealing bristle sections () is limited in the direction of the rotor ().

Seal arrangement

A sealing arrangement for a non-hermetic seal between a stator and a rotor includes a brush gasket having a plurality of bristles wound around a core element and affixed to the core element with a clamping element. The brush gasket is disposed at least partially in a receiving space delimited by a support element and by a cover element. The support element, the cover element, and the brush gasket are secured using at least one fitting element in at least one recess, especially in an axial groove or bore, in the stator. In addition to being positioned by using the at least one fitting element, the components may also be affixed to the stator using an attachment element.

Sealing arrangement and method for the production thereof

A seal arrangement for a turbo-engine, for sealing a peripheral gap between a rotor and a stator is provided. The stator a seal holder provided with at least one groove for respectively receiving a segmented, dynamic seal. Segments of the dynamic seal are made up of a plurality of brush seal segments, and free ends of bristles of the brush seal segments extend in the radial direction project from the respective groove and lie on the rotor. The or every groove for receiving the brush-type seal segments is designed without an undercut, the brush-type seal segments being received in the respective groove without an undercut in a positive manner.

Seal system

A brush seal has a bristle housing formed by a cover element and a support element. A plurality of bristles, which are wound around a core element and secured to the core element by a clamping element are positioned in the bristle housing. At least one of the support element and the cover element of the bristle housing are made of plastic.

Brush seal

A brush seal for sealing a rotor with respect to a stator includes a bristle housing which is held on the stator or rotor, a cover plate, a supporting plate, a circumferential surface and two side surfaces and in which bristles oriented with their free ends to the rotor or stator are fastened. The bristle housing, for ensuring correct, anti-rotation installation in its seat, includes a first positioning arrangement on at least one side surface or the circumferential surface, the first positioning arrangement interacting in a positive-locking manner with a correspondingly configured second positioning arrangement on the stator or rotor or a separate fastening element for the definite positioning of the bristle housing.

A brush seal assembly is provided for sealing components which move relative to one another. One of the components includes a recess or groove for accommodating a clamping sleeve which supports bristles. A support plate which is formed separately from the component and the clamping sleeve is pressed into the recess and abuts the recess wall surfaces and the clamping sleeve to hold the same in a predetermined working position.

Brush seal and method of using and making same

The invention relates to a brush seal for sealing a rotor against a stator. A brush housing is provided for fastening brushes whose free ends are directed towards the stator or rotor. The brush housing is held on the rotor or stator and has a support plate. In the brush seal the free ends of the brushes are provided with a slide-ring to improve the sealing effect and reduce the wear.

Brush seals with bristles arranged at an angle

A brush seal for sealing a rotor against a housing. The brush seal includes a front panel and a supporting plate attached to the housing wherein a number of bristles are disposed between the front panel and supporting plate. A seal housing that defines a fit surface is formed by cold joining the front panel and supporting plate. The front panel or the supporting plate include a beaded lip for firmly joining the front panel to the supporting plate.

A brush seal for sealing a rotor against a housing. The brush seal includes a number of bristles that are each attached to the housing by a clamp member. The clamp member is positioned between a supporting plate and a front panel. The supporting plate has a supporting section for supporting the bristles in an inclined position.

A brush seal assembly for turbo-engines is provided for sealing off spaces on a circumferential gap which are differently acted upon by pressure, particularly between an engine stator and an engine rotor. A holding device for a bristle bundle is provided on the engine stator, from which holding device the bristle bundle is guided between circumferential webs in a sealing manner against the engine rotor and forms an axial gap in the circumferential direction with respect to one web facing the high-pressure side. The upstream one of the circumferential webs, together with the engine rotor surface, forms an axial ring gap for flow of fluid therethrough. Turbulence reducing structure is disposed upstream of the upstream web in the high pressure space and serves to reduce the turbulence in flow of air from the upstream space through the axial ring gap. This turbulence reducing structure can be in the form of a metal sponge and/or a honey comb structure.

Brush seal for turbo engines

A brush seal is provided for sealing, with minimized leakage, a circumferential gap (S), for example between a rotor (1) and a stator (2) in a gas turbine engine. The brush seal includes a bristle housing (4) rigidly mounted on the stator or the rotor, and bristles (6) having fixed ends securely and durably held in the housing (4) and free ends protruding toward and into the annular gap (S). The housing (4) includes two holder disks (5A, 5B) with an interspace (Z) therebetween, wherein the interspace includes at least one of an axially directed first clamping portion (8) and a radially directed second clamping portion (10), and a widened non-clamping portion (7A, 7B). The fixed ends of the bristles are clampingly held in the first and second clamping portions, while the free ends of the bristles extend generally toward the opposite rotor or stator while being movably supported and guided by the widened non-clamping portion of the interspace (Z). The bristles (6) may extend at a tilt angle in the circumferential direction and may be stitched, woven, or glued together at their fixed ends in order to form a single bristle packet.

Brush seal between a rotor and a stator in a turbine machine

A brush seal (1, 101) seals a circumferential gap (S.sub.1) between two relatively rotatable machine components (2, 102; 3, 103), such as the rotor or a shaft and a stator of a fluid flow machine, such as a gas turbine engine. A plurality of seal bristles (4, 104) are fixed in a bristle holder (5) in an annular shape, and are mounted on the stator (3, 103) so that the free bristle ends (7, 107) extend toward and provide a seal against a seal surface (9, 109) of the rotor (2, 102). Each bristle includes a middle body portion (4A) that is tilted at a first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1) in the circumferential direction following the rotation direction, and the free bristle end (7, 107) is bent or angled relative to the tilted body portion (4A) so as to extend at a second tilt angle (.alpha..sub.2) which is smaller than the first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1). Preferably, the first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1) is in the range from 30.degree. to 60.degree., while the second tilt angle (.alpha..sub.2) is in the range from 0.degree. to 15.degree.. The bristles may further be tilted in an axial direction at an angle (.beta.) relative to a radially extending plane. Since the free bristle ends (7, 107) extend substantially perpendicularly to the seal surface (9, 109), the seal effectiveness and the elastic resiliency of the brush seal are maintained, and the bristles are not damaged, independent of the rotation direction of the rotor.

A brush seal assembly for turbo-engines is provided for sealing off spaces on a circumferential gap which are differently acted upon by pressure, particularly between an engine stator and an engine rotor. A holding device for a bristle bundle is provided on the engine stator, from which holding device the bristle bundle is guided between circumferential webs in a sealing manner against the engine rotor and forms an axial gap in the circumferential direction with respect to one web facing the high-pressure side. In this case, at least on the side which faces the space of the higher pressure on the seal, the bristle bundle is to have devices for the shielding against a turbulent flow triggered by the engine rotor.
