A transmission mode selection for packet-oriented transmission of useful data between a first and a second communication device is provided, where lists of transmission modes for the communication devices are transmitted to a quality-of-service device. The quality-of-service device uses available transmission resources to select one or more transmission modes from the lists such that the quality of service, which is dependent on the selected transmission modes, can be assured by the available transmission resources. The selected transmission modes are transmitted to a connection controller which prompts further selection of a transmission mode from the transmission modes for the communication devices. The useful data are then transmitted between the communication devices using the transmission mode selected by the further selection.

Method and communication system for selecting a transmission mode for transmitting payload data

The invention relates to a communication system and a method for providing a mobile telecommunication service. A communication network transmits messages on the basis of at least one internet protocol. A network connection computer connects an access network for mobile computers and the communication network. The access network is equipped with several access points comprising corresponding access point connection computers, which are configured to create a communication connection between variable access points and the mobile computers. An authorization verification computer establishes and manages trusted relationships between several communication elements. The network connection computer and the access point connection computer are configured to execute packet filtering during the receipt and transmission of messages for the secure protection of the communication system.

Communication system and method for providing a mobile communications service

In one aspect, multimedia connections are enabled between terminals coupled to a first communication network with a power characteristic control system and to a second communication network for transmitting multimedia data to be controlled in a simple manner. When a switching-oriented power characteristic is activated, the power characteristic control system controls a base connection by means of the first communication network between a first terminal and a second terminal. In the framework of the base connection, address information identifying the first terminal in the second communication network and multimedia information are transmitted to the second terminal. Furthermore, according to a multimedia capacity of the second terminal, the transmitted multimedia information, and the control system of the base connection, a terminal-controlled multimedia connection is controlled by means of the second communication network between the first and the second terminal, on the basis of the transmitted address information.

A private IP address is converted into a public IP address in a communications network without adapting a client software. The conversion of the private IP addresses into the public IP addresses is carried out via a network address translation. The private IP address of each terminal included in a payload of the IP data packet is convertible into a corresponding public IP address and, if necessary, vice-versa.

An IP Telephony Emergency Connections (ITEC) system and method that determines the precise origin of an emergency call and routes the call to the proper Public Service Answering Point (PSAP). A source-based routing mechanism is provided in an IP telephony type network, such as a VoIP or IP over LAN/ATM. Emergency calls are routed to the correct PSAP jurisdiction. Each server/switch may include the mechanism such that the IP Telephony network can identify an E911 connection and egress to a public network at a point closest to the emergency call point of origin. Whenever an emergency number call is made, the call's origin is determined during call setup establishment. Every port or end user jack in the network is assigned a Source Group Index (SGI), which is a number or index representing each PSAP jurisdiction in the network. All ports/jacks within the same PSAP jurisdiction are assigned the same SGI. Users may be in different areas of multiple PSAP jurisdictions.

Internet protocol (IP) emergency connections (ITEC) telephony

A method for route searching from a calling subscriber of a first terminal that is connected to a first communications network to a terminal of a called subscriber. In this case, the terminal of the called subscriber, whose address for setting up a call is initiated by the first terminal, is connected to a second communications network. Call diversion to a diversion destination is activated for the terminal of the called subscriber, in which case the diversion destination is not assigned to the second communications network.
