A method is for operating a radiation detector, in particular an X-ray radiation detector. The radiation detector has a control device to generate a control signal for an illumination unit. The control signal is generated via a pulse current source and a DC source. The pulse current source generates a pulsed signal portion and the DC source generates a direct component. The pulsed signal portion and the direct component are superimposed to generate the control signal and are fed to the illumination unit. A radiation detector is furthermore specified.

A directly-converting X-ray detector includes: a directly-converting sensor material, which is to be maintained at a working temperature, and configured to have a DC voltage applied thereto; a conditioning unit configured to cause a base current to flow through the sensor material; a heating unit for the sensor material, the heating unit configured to be regulated by a regulating unit to maintain the working temperature; and a control device having a plurality of electronics units, which include the regulating unit. When a new configuration and/or a reconfiguration process takes place, the control device is configured to maintain the operation of the conditioning unit, and to interrupt the operation of the heating unit and/or maintain the operation of the heating unit with the control value most recently ascertained in ordinary operation of the regulating unit.

An X-ray detector unit is disclosed. In an embodiment, the X-ray detector unit includes: at least one analysis unit to process electrical signals delivered from a coupled converter unit and operatable by an operating voltage; an adjustable voltage supply, coupled to the at least one analysis unit, to provide an adjustable supply voltage; an identification unit, assigned to the at least one analysis unit, to provide identification information about the at least one analysis unit in a readable manner; and a communication unit, coupled to the adjustable voltage supply, to read the identification information provided from the identification unit, and based upon the identification information provided, to adjust the adjustable voltage supply to equate the provided supply voltage to the operating voltage of the at least one analysis unit.

An X-ray detector includes a converter element and a carrier element in a stack arrangement. In an embodiment, the X-ray detector further includes a light source arranged on the carrier element, a light-directing unit formed outside a projection of a planar extension of the converter element in the stacking direction, and a light-directing unit arranged such that a quantity of light emitted from the light source is incident on a surface of the converter element, facing away from the carrier element via a light path.

In an embodiment, the X-ray detector includes a voltage source, configured to provide a first potential and a second potential different from the first potential; a pulse generating unit for generating voltage pulses; and a connecting unit, for applying the voltage pulses onto the first potential, configured at the output to provide a pulsed potential. In an embodiment, through the application of the pulsed potential to a first surface of the direct-conversion converter element and through the application of the second potential to a second surface of the converter element opposed to the first surface, a pulsed potential difference is formed in the direct-conversion converter element.
