An apparatus and method for registering a position of a component of a press is disclosed. The press having a plurality of components that can rotate about a central longitudinal axis, such as a main drive shaft and press cylinders, at least one of these components being assigned at least one position registering device, which registers the angular position of the respective component. The, or each, position registering device is formed as a magnetic rotary encoder.

Apparatus and method for registering a position of a component of a press

A web fed rotary printing unit is provided. The printing unit includes a plurality of cylinders including a first cylinder assigned a first adjustable drive motor and a second cylinder assigned a second adjustable drive motor. The first and second cylinders are in a mechanical drive connection that can be moved between engaged and disengaged positions. When the mechanical drive connection is engaged, the first drive motor assigned to the first cylinder forms a master drive in dependence on which the second drive motor assigned to the second cylinder can be controlled in the manner of a slave drive.

Web-fed rotary printing unit

A web-fed rotary printing unit having a plurality of printing mechanisms is provided. Each printing mechanism includes a form cylinder (--), a transfer cylinder (--) and an impression cylinder (). The component costs associated with the drive motors can be reduced by providing a drive motor () that has a drive connection to the other cylinders via the impression cylinder.

Each printing mechanism includes a form cylinder (--), a transfer cylinder (--) and a separate or common impression cylinder (). Stress torques acting on the drive motors can be eliminated to the greatest possible extent by providing a drive motor that has a drive connection to the further cylinders via the impression cylinder.
