Disclosed herein is a dual-feed dual-polarized antenna element and a method for manufacturing the same. An embodiment dual-polarization antenna element includes four radiating elements and eight feed ports. The four radiating elements are arranged in a co-planar diamond pattern. The neighboring elements of the four radiating elements form four shared-element dipole antenna elements. Each of the four radiating elements is shared between two cross-polarized dipole antenna elements of the four shared-element dipole antenna elements. The eight feed ports are arranged in four cross-polarized dual-feed pairs respectively disposed on the four radiating elements. Each feed port of the four cross-polarized dual-feed pairs is operable to respectively excite one of the four radiating elements for a cross-polarized one of the four shared-element dipole antenna elements.

An embodiment filter including metallic plating unitarily forming a spherical shell and a resonator, the resonator defining a resonator cavity, a tuning nut disposed in a lower portion of the resonator cavity, and a tuning screw threadably secured within the resonator cavity by the tuning nut, the tuning screw rotatable to deform an upper portion of the resonator to tune the filter.

On-board heat dissipation can be achieved in radio frequency (RF) modules by integrating a heat sink into the RF module's antenna reflector. Said integration achieves a compact and aesthetically pleasing RF module design that reduces the overall footprint of modular active antenna systems (AASs). Embodiment antenna reflectors include portions that are perforated and/or exposed to free flowing air to provide enhanced heat dissipation capability.

Multiple radio frequency (RF) modules can be arranged in a multi-sector configuration. Each RF modules may have a wedge-like shape such that the RF modules may be adjacently affixed to one another in spherical cluster, thereby providing multi-sector coverage while maintaining a relatively compact active antenna installation. Additionally, multiple clusters of RF modules can be arranged in an array to provide beamforming and/or other advances antenna functionality.

Heat dissipation in vertically arrayed host device configurations can be improved through inclusion of heat sinks having split-stream fin architectures. The split-stream fin architecture includes two or more sets of angled fins separated by a central conduit, which allows for more efficient inflow and/or expulsion of convection cooling air over the heat sink. The split-stream fin arrangement may include inwardly angled fins in order to draw convection cooling air inwards from horizontal inlets, in which case warm exhaust is expelled through the central conduit. Conversely, the split-stream fin arrangement may include outwardly angled fins, which draw convection cooling air from the central conduit, and expel warm air through horizontal exhausts. The split-stream fin arrangements function well when host devices are configured horizontally, which allows for more flexible host device configurations.

Apparatus and method for an active antenna heat sink

Field-serviceable radio frequency modules can be achieved by replacing hard-wired radio frequency (RF) feedback paths with external near-field RF probes. Notably, the near-field RF probes may allow for the RF module to be installed/re-installed on a backplane or other support structure without fowling factory calibration settings. Multiple near-field RF probes can monitor a single RF module. Additionally, a single near-field RF probe can monitor multiple RF modules.
