Some embodiments of the invention are directed to enabling a user to easily identify the frequency range(s) at which sound masking occurs, and addressing the masking, if desired. In this respect, the extent to which a first stem is masked by one or more second stems in a frequency range may depend not only on the absolute value of the energy of the second stem(s) in the frequency range, but also on the relative energy of the first stem with respect to the second stem(s) in the frequency range. Accordingly, some embodiments are directed to modeling sound masking as a function of the energy of the stem being masked and of the relative energy of the masked stem with respect to the masking stem(s) in the frequency range, such as by modeling sound masking as loudness loss, a value indicative of the reduction in loudness of a stem of interest caused by the presence of one or more other stems in a frequency range.

Systems and methods for identifying and remediating sound masking

Some embodiments of the invention are directed to techniques for suppressing or attenuating noise in audio circuitry, such as which may result from a source of electromagnetic energy being coupled to the audio circuitry. Some embodiments may employ two separate channels, a first of which captures audio information and noise, and a second of which captures the noise. Noise compensation may be performed by transforming the signal of the first channel in accordance with noise in the second channel which is identified as comprising a particular type of noise.

Identifying and addressing noise in an audio signal

Some embodiments of the invention are directed to enabling a user to modify the manner in which one or more settings specified by a predefined template for a particular sound source are applied, so as to provide the user with greater control over the settings which are applied to a track than conventional tools afford. Some embodiments are directed to automatically applying one or more settings for a track based at least in part upon an analysis of the spectral and/or dynamic content of the track, such as by automatically performing sound equalization by applying one or more digital filters to a track, defining the frequency range(s) in which one or more filter(s) are applied, applying dynamic range compression, defining the manner in which compression is applied in multiple sub-bands of the audible spectrum, and/or applying one or more other settings. Such settings may be designed to achieve any of numerous (e.g., artistic) goals, such as to bring to the forefront certain elements of the natural character of the sound in a track, or to enhance the track's overall balance and/or clarity.

Systems and methods for automatically generating enhanced audio output

A system and method for limiting amplitude of a signal, such as limiting the loudness of an audio signal. Embodiments of the present invention allow for the most aggressive limiting by using an advanced psychoacoustic model to intelligently determine the amount of limiting that can be done to the incoming signal before producing distortion that is detectable to the human ear.

Audio limiter system and method

A pickup processing system for a guitar or other musical instrument. According to one embodiment, a split pickup is employed that separates the sound from the two bass strings from the other four strings. The signal from the bass strings may be provided to an octave divider, which creates a bass sound to add back into the sound. The octave divider produces sound without discontinuities or other artifacts. Other effects include restored acoustical properties of the guitar body, stereo imaging, reverb and others. The present invention may be fully contained within the body of an acoustic guitar.

System and method for guitar signal processing

A system and method to assist a singer or other user. An audio source is processed to extract the lead vocals from the audio signal. This vocal signal is fed to a pitch detection processor which estimates the pitch at each moment in time. A user singing into a microphone provides a user vocal signal that is also pitch detected. The pitch of the lead vocal signal and the user vocal signal are compared and any difference is provided to a pitch shifting module, which then can correct the pitch of the user vocal signal. The corrected user vocal signal may be combined with a background signal comprising a signal from the audio source without the lead vocal signal, and then provided to headphones or loudspeakers to the user and/or an audience. This system and method may be used for Karaoke performances.

The resolution-converting method comprises steps of applying an edge-directed interpolation to an input image and producing an intermediate image; converting a sampling rate with respect to the intermediate image and producing an output image having a predetermined resolution; and improving sharpness of the produced output image. The present invention prevents image-quality degradation factors that can occur in the conventional resolution-converting method as well as obtains an output image having a resolution of a desired size.

A method converts a resolution of video signals, the method including: calculating up-sampling and down-sampling ratios based on a resolution of an input video signal and a desired resolution of an output video signal; calculating a number of filter tabs by multiplying the up-sampling and down-sampling ratios by a number of side lobes; calculating first filter coefficients of a same number of the filter tabs by multiplying a window function by a sinc function; calculating final filter coefficients by subtracting a result of a multiplication of a Gaussian function by a window function from the first filter coefficients, and then normalizing the final filter coefficients; and performing filtering in vertical and horizontal directions based on the final filter coefficients by modifying a sampling rate of an input video signal depending on the up-sampling and down-sampling ratios, to obtain clear video images.
