A power control system measures individual battery cell voltages and temperatures of a plurality of series-connected battery cells utilizing an Analog Front End, a controller that collects and analyzes the data digitally transferred to it by the Analog Front End, and a Fuel Gauge. Processes performed within the controller are configured to provide optimized representations of the data to the Fuel Gauge to improve its performance.

Method for monitoring series-connected battery cells

A power system provides power from a power source to a load via a distribution bus, and includes a DC-DC converter coupled in parallel with a network of switching elements coupled between an output terminal of the power source and the distribution bus. A controller is configured to selectively activate or deactivate the DC-DC converter and each of the switching elements to enable the power source to power the load via the distribution bus. The switching elements may be transistors, and the diodes may be parasitic body diodes of the transistors. The power source may be a battery, such as a rechargeable battery. An output voltage level from the battery may be regulated by the controller as a function of operation of the DC-DC converter and a number of the activated or deactivated transistors.

Power system

An energy delivery system that combines multiple energy storage sources/systems of different chemical compositions or physical construction with a common control system that is configured to output energy from the system as a function of the different performance characteristics of each system, and is therefore capable of optimizing various operational characteristics of the combined system. The control system is configured to utilize a separate variable impedance network for each energy storage system to adjust the relative output current or discharge rate of each energy storage system, such as to optimize cycle life, depth of discharge, temperature, delivered power, and/or perceived safety of each energy storage system.

Energy delivery system

A backup system for a power supply unit providing power to a load via a distribution bus includes a power source, a network of switching elements coupled between an output terminal of the power source and the distribution bus, diodes coupled in parallel with the switching elements, and a controller configured to selectively activate or deactivate each of the switching elements to enable the power source to power the load via the distribution bus. The switching elements may be transistors, and the diodes may be parasitic body diodes of the transistors. The power source may be a battery, such as a rechargeable battery. An output voltage level from the battery may be regulated by the controller as a function of a number of the activated or deactivated transistors.

Embodiments of the disclosure provide systems and methods for estimating battery discharge time duration during high-rate battery discharging. Generally speaking, embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to a prediction of battery run times for short duration, high-current discharge events that are scaled in seconds rather than minutes, and which are continuously compensated for ambient temperature which can alter discharge times as a result of reaching thermal limitations before chemical capacity has actually been exhausted.

Method of estimation of discharge time duration during high-rate battery discharge

System and method for operating an ionizer using a combination of amplitude modulation and pulse width modulation to control the plasma temperature and the type of ions needed for analytic equipment. Ion density can be controlled by the repetition rate. The ionizer may utilize a non-radioactive ionization source, and be coupled to a differential mobility spectroscopy (DMS) analyzer.

Nonradioactive ionization source driver

A sensor system issues measurement commands at a predetermined regular rate. If a measurement indicates that a gas of interest is present, then the sensor system is signaled to wake-up thereby pulsing a heater for the sensor element that improves the accuracy of measurements. Measurements of humidity, temperature and gas concentration are made. If the gas of interest is detected then the data is used to indicate a compensated gas measurement. The gas level is classified as to its hazard and an adaptive detection algorithm is used to set an activity mode. If the gas of interest is not detected, the adaptive detection algorithm is used to set a sleep mode that saves power. Measurement rates are kept constant while heater power is controlled to reduce power consumption. Measurement rates are changed to increase concentration sensitivity.

Gas sensor

A method for electronically detecting an electrostatic based biological binding event. This same binding event can be detected optically via complicated experimental setups. A balanced coil system is incorporated into a hand held unit with a plug-in chip. The chip may further be made to act like an array with a different surface molecule for detection of different bio-molecules.

Capacitance based biosensor

A high voltage driver with capacitive coupling that is useful in the presence of the high power supply ripple common with higher-voltage systems. It permits extreme ranges of duty cycle, but without the limitations of transformer magnetics, or the increased complexity of optical coupling methods. It is also robust in the presence of voltage transients created by high-voltage arcing to the output drive-line.

An image projection system comprises an image projector, such as a film or television projector and a projection screen. The projection screen is fabricated of a substantially transparent material, such as glass or plastic. The screen of transparent material has one or more areas or portions formed therein which areas or portions may be made to be translucent upon the application of a stimulus. Once in a translucent condition, the projected image can be received and viewed on the translucent portion. A mirror can be positioned behind the projection screen so that a person can view the reflection of themselves in the mirror when the screen is transparent, and an image can be projected when the projection screen is made to be substantially translucent.

The present invention provides for a field emission device including an anode assembly and a cathode assembly, wherein the cathode assembly further includes a substrate, a plurality of electrically conducting strips deposited on the substrate, and a continuous layer of diamond material deposited over the plurality of electrically conducting strips and portions of the substrate exposed between the plurality of electrically conducting strips. The field emission device may further include a grid assembly including a perforated silicon substrate, a first dielectric layer deposited on the silicon substrate, and a first conducting layer deposited on the first dielectric layer, wherein the first dielectric layer and the first conducting layer have perforations coinciding with perforations of the silicon substrate. The grid assembly may further include a second dielectric layer deposited on an underside of the silicon substrate, wherein the second dielectric layer has perforations coinciding with perforations of the silicon substrate.
