The method consists in that molten metal and slag are obtained in a reservoir and then are poured into a mold and kept there till crystallization of the metal takes place and a shaped casting is produced. Prior to the process of pouring, the mold is moved towards the reservoir so that their upper end faces adjoin each other to form a closed integrated unit, which is turned in a vertical plane to transfer the metal and slag into the mold. The joint of the mold with the reservoir in the process of pouring is tightened by providing a time delay for this process from the moment of covering the joint with a slag layer till the moment of solidification of this layer. In the device for producing the castings, the mold and reservoir are provided with individual drives rotating them in a vertical plane, the drives moving the mold to form a closed integrated unit with the reservoir and rotating this unit in the process of pouring the molten metal and slag into the mold.

Method of and apparatus for producing shaped castings

In an electroslag remelting apparatus comprising electrode holders adapted to hold at least two consumable electrodes connected to different terminals of an a.c. power source, the mould and the bottom plate are electrically connected to each other and, through rectifiers, to the a.c. power source, the rectifiers being connected to the same terminals of the a.c. power source as the electrode holders. The rectifiers are so connected into the circuit as to provide a flow of only direct current through the bottom plate and mould towards the a.c. source through said rectifiers.

Apparatus for electroslag remelting of consumable electrodes

In melting down at least one consumable electrode in an electroslag remelting furnace, a gas is blown into the molten slag in such a manner that the gas flows in a jet towards the consumable electrode portion immersed into the slag to create a slag flow around said portion and thereby accelerate the melting-down of the electrode. The method efficiently eliminates an unbalance in the melting-down rates of two or more electrodes by blowing in the gas at different or controlled flow rates towards every electrode.

Method for electroslag remelting of metals

A mould wall has one or a plurality of cylindrical or tapered inserts positioned therein. The outer lateral surfaces of the inserts are provided with longitudinal through grooves bounded by the wall of the opening wherein the insert is positioned, the groove and the wall forming passages for feeding gas into the slag pool zone in the mould. The insert may consist of a plurality of parts coaxial within one another, the outer lateral surfaces of the parts having longitudinal through grooves similar to those on the insert outer surface. The mould construction according to the invention simplifies the technique for manufacturing ducts for feeding gas into the slag pool zone and raises the intensity of interaction between the gas and the liquid pool by feeding gas in the form of small bubbles having large total surface area.

Electroslag remelting mould

Premelted slag and metal of a specified composition are poured into a recacle. Thereafter, electroslag remelting of consumable electrodes is carried out in a slag pool formed in the receptacle. As the poured-in metal and remelted metal solidify, a non-split workpiece is being formed of two parts, of which one part is formed of the poured-in metal and the other one of the consumable electrode being melted down. To produce hollow billets with bottom parts according to the method, described above, the molten metal is taken in an amount determined by the mass of the bottom part. The molten slag and molten metal are poured into a working space of an apparatus for producing cast hollow billets, which working space is defined by a stationary bottom plate, the mould walls and by a mandrel. This very working space is also used for effecting electroslag remelting of consumable electrodes to form the remainder part of the hollow billet.

Method for producing a non-split metal workpiece formed as a cast hollow

A process of simultaneous electroslag remelting several consumable electrodes fastened in a common electrode holder which contemplates feeding a flow of cooled gas to a lateral face of the electrode immersed inadequately in a slag bath, i.e. fused off to a larger degree.

Process of the electroslag remelting of consumable electrodes

A mould for the electroslag casting of faceted metal ingots has longitudinal flutes on the internal surfaces of at least two walls thereof. The depth of these flutes decreases in a horizontal direction from the middle of the walls to the corners of the mould chamber.

A contactless inductance interface pickup, having within an external housing an auxiliary housing installed, and formed as a pot, with at least the bottom thereof being constructed from a non-magnetic material, and a clearance between the external housing and the auxiliary housing wherethrough a cooling agent flows around the pickup. Inside the auxiliary housing, in immediate proximity to the bottom thereof, a magnetic circuit is disposed with at least one measuring winding and at least one energized winding.

An electroslag remelting furnace with relative displacement of a mould and an ingot being cast is provided with an electric control circuit for controlling the displacement of consumable electrodes, an electric control circuit for controlling the displacement of the mould, and an electric control circuit for controlling the power input in accordance with the rate of the ingot remelting, all of the electric circuits being electrically coupled to one another.

An electroslag remelting plant comprises a cooled mould with a base plate mounted on a car, and an electrode holder secured to a stringer with the help of a carriage. The electrode holder incorporates a standard head made up of two parts isolated from each other, each being adapted for holding in place at least one electrode and secured in the electrode holder so that each part contacts an appropriate contact plate of the electrode holder, the contact plates being connected to unlike poles of a power supply source.

A furnace for the electroslag remelting of consumable electrodes in a single mould, having a common slag bath and a zone for shaping simultaneously several ingots separated into parts with the aid of at least one dividing wall.

An electroslag remelting plant comprises a cooled mould, a base plate adapted for shaping the bottom part of an ingot, a single-phase transformer having a secondary winding with a midpoint, and two similar groups of electrodes, each one of the two groups of electrodes comprises at least two electrodes and being connected to one of the ends of the secondary winding of the single-phase transformer so that each two proximate adjacent electrodes have an opposite polarity.
