A method of routing messages in an IP-based signaling network is provided. Further, a network node for performing such a routing of messages in an IP-based signaling network is provided. The network node comprises at least two interfaces and a processing unit configured to route an incoming message received at a first of the at least two interfaces to a second interface of the at least two interfaces. Further, a relay network comprising plural of such network nodes as relay nodes is provided.

Network node and method of routing messages in an IP-based signaling network

The application relates to the transport of SS7 signaling over an Internet Protocol based network and in particular to the routing of SS7 Signaling Network Management SSNM Messages such as Destination Unavailable DUNA and Signalling Congestion SCON by a SIGTRAN relay node. The SSNM messages are checked against a so-called 'validation rule', which either specifies a list of allowed affected point codes or a threshold rate of SSNM messages with the same affected point code. If the SSNM message is 'valid' it is sent to a so-called &#x201c;broadcast domain&#x201d; which comprise nodes such as signaling endpoints or component of one or more application servers.

Reducing broadcast of SS7 network management messages by SIGTRAN relay node

A method of operating a signaling gateway for routing signaling messages between a SS7 network and an IP-based network is provided. The signaling gateway has a signaling point code allocated as a network address. Further, a signaling gateway for routing signaling messages between a SS7 network and an IP-based network is provided. The signaling gateway comprises an interface towards the SS7 network and an interface towards the IP-based network. The signaling gateway comprises a processing unit which may implement a SS7 protocol stack and an IP protocol stack. A system and method control a setup of a connection in a communication network including a set of nodes, such as Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) and Media Gateways (MGWs). In one example, a speech connection is established between MGWs subject to the control of the MSCs, which can selectively activate or deactivate codecs along the connection. The codecs potentially affect connection quality by differing amounts. A Total Accumulated Impairment (TAI) element is forwarded between the MSCs and updated by the MSCs that include individual partially accumulated impairment values corresponding to the supported codec candidates. Each individual indicator value provides information representative of the expected accumulated impairment along a candidate connection path leading up to, and including, the corresponding codec. By providing information pertaining to the expected accumulated impairment along each candidate connection path, the MSCs can determine an optimum sequence of codecs to minimize the overall connection impairment.

The invention relates to a method, device and system for management of resource in a communication network having a resource owner (RO) providing the resource and at least one resource user (RU) using the resource. According to the present invention a resource broker is introduced between the resource owner and the at least one resource user. Said broker is arranged to perform a management procedure for deciding whether to perform a allocation, keeping or release of resource. In order to take a decision a resource usage measure (TTL) is used. In accordance with the present invention said measure is updated when user's usage measure (Keep Alive, InterestMsg) informing about the expected usage of the resource by a resource user is obtained. The update is performed by means of a cumulative algorithm taking into account current and past values of the resource usage measure (TTL).
