Examples of the present disclosure include an electrochemical device. The electrochemical device includes a first substrate layer. The electrochemical device also includes an anode disposed upon the first substrate layer. The electrochemical device also includes a second substrate layer. The electrochemical device also includes a cathode disposed upon the second substrate layer. The electrochemical device also includes an electrolyte composition disposed between and in contact with the anode and the cathode. The electrochemical device also includes a sintered sealing layer composition disposed between the first substrate layer and the second substrate layer. A sintered sealing layer composition and methods for producing are also disclosed.

A polyalkylene glycol terminated poly-carbodiimide has formula 1: Ris an aliphatic group from about 5 to about 12 carbon atoms, a cycloaliphatic moiety of from about 6 to about 20 carbon atoms, an isosorbide moiety, a 1,3-furan moiety, an L-lysine alkyl ester moiety, a rosin moiety, a cycloaliphatic unsaturated moiety, or a cardanol moiety; Ris hydrogen or a methyl group; Ris a methyl, ethyl, or propyl moeity; and n and m are integers and are each independently between 1 and about 30.

Parts made by additive manufacturing are often structural in nature, rather than having functional properties conveyed by a polymer or other component. Printed parts having piezoelectric properties may be formed using compositions comprising a plurality of piezoelectric particles non-covalently interacting with at least a portion of a polymer material via π-π bonding, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interactions stronger than van der Waals interactions, or any combination thereof. The piezoelectric particles may be dispersed in the polymer material and remain substantially non-agglomerated when combined with the polymer material. The polymer material may comprise at least one thermoplastic polymer, optionally further including a polymer precursor. The compositions may define an extrudable material that is a composite having a form factor such as a composite filament, a composite pellet, a composite powder, or a composite paste. Additive manufacturing processes using the compositions may comprise forming a printed part by depositing the compositions layer-by-layer.

Piezoelectric composites featuring noncovalent interactions and use thereof in additive manufacturing

Parts made by additive manufacturing are often structural in nature, rather than having functional properties conveyed by a component present therein. Composite filaments suitable for additive manufacturing may comprise a continuous polymer phase of a first thermoplastic polymer and a second thermoplastic polymer that are immiscible with one another, and electrically conductive particles distributed in the continuous polymer phase, such as microparticles, nanoparticles, or any combination thereof. The first thermoplastic polymer is dissolvable or degradable and the second thermoplastic polymer is insoluble or non-degradable under specified conditions. Removal of the first thermoplastic polymer from a printed part may introduce porosity thereto, thereby inducing or enhancing piezoresistivity within the printed part. An aqueous mixture comprising the electrically conductive particles and the first and second thermoplastic polymers may have water removed therefrom, and the resulting composite residue may be extruded to form the composite filaments.

Piezoresistive composites via additive manufacturing and composite filaments associated therewith

Compositions include a plurality of polymer particulates comprising a matrix polymer and one or more types of nanoparticles selected from the group consisting of biopolymer nanoparticles, biomineral nanoparticles excluding biomineralized silica alone, and any combination thereof. Illustrative examples of such nanoparticles may include cellulose nanoparticles, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, or any combination thereof associated with the matrix polymer. The polymer particulates may be prepared by melt emulsification. Methods include depositing such polymer particulates in a powder bed; and heating a portion of the powder bed to consolidate a portion of the polymer particulates into a consolidated part having a specified shape. The matrix polymer may be biodegradable and lose at least about 40% mass in six days in a phosphate buffer solution (0.2 M, pH 7.0) containing 0.2 mg/mL of lipase obtained from(≥30 U/mg) and incubated at 37° C.
