A rotor assembly for an electric machine has a rotor and magnets configured to form rotor poles that each have a central pole axis extending in a radial direction from a longitudinal axis. The rotor poles each have a first magnet layer having one or more first magnet including a central first magnet having a first transverse axis disposed perpendicular to the central pole axis. The rotor poles each have a second magnet layer radially inset from the first magnet layer and having two or more second magnets that include a pair of inclined second magnets each having a first transverse axis extending at an acute angle to the central pole axis. In relation to the central pole axis, a portion of each inclined second magnet is disposed inboard of an end of the central first magnet.

Apparatus for an electric machine

Aspects of the present invention relate to a rotor end member (--) for conveying air through a rotor () of an electric machine (). The rotor end member (--) has at least one air inlet aperture (-) for conveyance of air into one or more first rotor aperture (-) formed in a radially inner section (RE) of the rotor (). The rotor end member (--) also has at least one air outlet aperture (-) for discharging air from one or more second rotor aperture (A-C) formed in a radially outer section (RE) of the rotor (). The present invention also relates to a rotor assembly (); an electric machine (); and a vehicle (V).

Air flow control apparatus

A stator and a stator housing for an electric machine is disclosed. The stator housing comprises an opening to receive the stator in a direction extending along a longitudinal axis of the electric machine to enable the stator housing to be shrink-fitted to the stator. The shape of the opening in the stator housing lying in a cross-sectional plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis comprises four quarter circle arcs, with at least two of the quarter circle arcs being separated by a non-zero distance, the stator having a corresponding shape to the stator housing.

An electrical machine comprises a stator and a rotor having a plurality of poles. Each pole comprises a radial axis centrally through the pole. Each pole comprises a first slot configuration having a magnet located centrally within the slot with the radial axis passing through the magnet or the magnet being substantially perpendicular to the radial axis. Each pole comprises a second slot configuration having a pair of magnets located at spaced apart positions within the slot. The pair of magnets are located each side of the radial axis. The first slot configuration is located between the second slot configuration and an outer perimeter of the rotor.

The present disclosure relates to a rotor () for an electric machine (). The rotor () includes a plurality of magnet poles (--) each comprising one or more permanent magnets (-). The magnet poles (--) are angularly separated from each other and an inter-pole region (--) is formed between adjacent magnet poles (--). At least one external flux barrier (--) is disposed in each said inter-pole region (--), the at least one external flux barrier (--) comprising an external aperture. The present disclosure also relates to an electric machine () including a rotor (); and to a vehicle () including an electric machine ().

Rotor for an electric machine

An electrical machine () comprises a stator () and a rotor () having a plurality of poles (). A pole comprises a radial axis () centrally through the pole. A pole comprises a first slot configuration () having a magnet () located centrally within the slot with the radial axis () passing through the magnet () or the magnet being substantially perpendicular to the radial axis. A pole comprises a second slot configuration () having a pair of magnets (--) located at spaced apart positions within the slot. The pair of magnets (--) are located each side of the radial axis (). The first slot configuration () is located between the second slot configuration () and an outer perimeter () of the rotor ().

The present disclosure relates to a rotor () for an electric machine (). The rotor () is composed of a support frame () having a centre section () and a plurality of spokes (). The spokes () extend outwardly from the centre section (). The spokes () each have at least first and second bridge elements (A,B) formed by one or more flux barrier (). The first and second bridge elements (A,B) are configured to control magnetic flux leakage into said centre section (). The present disclosure also relates to an electric machine () having a rotor () of this type.

The present disclosure relates to an electric drive motor () for a vehicle. The electric drive motor () has a stator () having a plurality of slots (); and a rotor () having a plurality of poles (). The poles () each have at least a first permanent magnet () centred on a d-axis of the pole (); and a plurality of flux barriers () for disrupting at least an n-th order torque harmonic of the electric drive motor (). Proximal to an outer surface of the rotor (), a first angular period (x11) between first and secondary flux barriers is defined by the equation (xi1=tao/n1), whereby: (xi1) is the first angular period; (tao) is the pole step; and n1 is an order number of a torque harmonic to be disrupted.

Aspects of the invention relate to a switched reluctance motor and the reduction of motor torque output ripple by inclusion of flux barriers. The inclusion of flux barriers running parallel to the motor shaft axis located in the appropriate places in either or the rotor and stator can modify the torque profile output of the motor markedly reducing potential vibration problems in a vehicle driveline.

In one aspect of the invention for which protection is sought there is provided an electric machine comprising a substantially circular rotor and a stator, wherein the stator comprises at least one substantially arcuate segment. Aspects of the invention also relate to a stator segment comprising at least one inter-pole shield disposed between adjacent teeth. Further aspects of the invention also relate to a stator segment having a first shield disposed at a first circumferential end thereof and/or a second shield disposed at a second circumferential end thereof. Aspects of the invention also relate to a stator segment having a radially outwardly directed protuberance.
