An embodiment of a video-surveillance method comprising: activating a video camera for acquiring, for a surveillance system comprising the aforesaid video camera, a digital video sequence of images of a scene to be surveyed, detecting given events and transmitting to a remote center images of the aforesaid digital video sequence of images acquired according to the result of the aforesaid operation of event detection. An embodiment includes: executing an operation of extraction of key frames on the aforesaid digital video sequence of images for composing a visual storyboard, detecting given events on the basis of data supplied by one or more event sensors for generating an event signal, controlling operating states assumed by the aforesaid key-frame-extraction operation as a function of the values assumed by the aforesaid event signal, and transmitting the aforesaid visual storyboard to the aforesaid remote center.

Video-surveillance method, corresponding system, and computer program product

In an embodiment, information contents, such as, e.g., media contents arranged in pieces including blocks of bits, is distributed over a network including plural terminals at least one of which acts as a source of the pieces of information distributed. Various terminals in the network are configured to act as peer terminals with at least one first peer terminal sending the information to one or more second peer terminals. A set of blocks of a corresponding piece of information is received at the first peer terminal and the corresponding piece of information is reconstructed from the set of blocks received. The pieces of information distributed over the network are fountain encoded by XOR-ing the blocks in a piece, so that a received piece is reconstructable from a combination of a corresponding set of linearly independent XOR-ed blocks. The first peer terminal may start sending to the second peer terminal(s) blocks it is receiving before the corresponding piece of information is reconstructed and possibly subjected to integrity check at the first terminal. Fountain encoding the pieces of information is by means of plural sets of linearly independent XOR-ed blocks. A same piece of information is distributed to a plurality of peer terminals by sending thereto different sets of linearly independent XOR-ed blocks, thus avoiding undue redundancy in the information further propagated to other peers.

Method for distributing information contents, corresponding device and computer program product

The interfacing of coded media data packets in the transfer from and to a peer-to-peer network envisages that the data packets are included in groups of packets that may have lengths different from one another. Each group of data packets is encapsulated in a group of chunks of given length. The media data is made available in the network as a multiplicity of different descriptions of a multiple-description coding of one and the same media content. The terminals of the peer-to-peer network are configured for accessing selectively the multiplicity of different descriptions of said media contents, combining them with one another, or else accessing one of the different descriptions in substitution for another preserving access to the media contents. The data may be made available as base layer and at least one enhancement layer of one and the same media content.

Method and system for distribution of information contents and corresponding computer program product

A method of distributing media content over networks where content is shared includes coupling downloading metadata, which is accessed to start downloading media contents from the network, with semantic metadata representative of the semantic information associated with at least one of the content, and with source metadata indicative of the source of the media content. At least one of the semantic and the source metadata may be made accessible without downloading, even partially, the media content. A digital signature may also be applied to the metadata to enable the verification that, at reception, the metadata is intact and has not been subjected to malicious tampering.

Method and devices for distributing media contents and related computer program product

Information codes are arranged in pieces comprised of chunks of bytes over a network, such as a Peer-to-Peer overlay network, including a set of peer terminals. A first peer identifies missing chunks in the received pieces and requests such missing chunks from other peers. The chunks are subjected to a fountain code encoding wherein the chunks in a piece are X-ORed. The first peer is therefore capable of reconstructing a received piece encoded with fountain codes from a combination of linearly independent chunks corresponding to the piece. The chunks are transmitted over the network with a connection-less protocol, without retransmission of lost packets, preferably with a UDP protocol.
