An apparatus for cutting nails includes single and dual blade embodiments with a frame formed primarily of plastic that includes upper and lower frame members. Numerous variations of a reinforcing member are disclosed. The reinforcing member is embedded in or attached to at least one of the frame members so that a portion, thereof, is preferably disposed in vertical alignment with a force that is applied to at least one of the frame members during use to reduce a magnitude of shear experienced and to also improve an ability to withstand shear. Optional integrally-formed sidewalls provide a container for capturing clippings and also reinforce the frame member thereby reducing flexing while also increasing its ability to withstand shear. Other disclosed innovations include improvements to the lever and blade, automatically file the nail, enhance safety and function, allow customization, improve aesthetics, and lower cost. Numerous other significant improvements are also disclosed.

An apparatus for cutting nails includes a plastic frame with a pair of opposing parallel cutting blades. A first of the pair of blades is attached to an upper half of the frame and a second of the pair of blades is attached to a lower half of the frame. The blades are formed of a material that is different than the frame. A center rod extends through the frame and the cutting blades. The center rod is used to create and transfer a force necessary to sever a fingernail or toenail and to secure a position of the blades with respect to each other. A pivoting lever is used to supply the force to a surface of the blades sufficient to urge the cutting blades toward each other to simultaneously sever the nail. The majority of the forces produced during use are applied directly to the cutting blades.

An apparatus for cutting toenails and fingernails includes a frame member that includes an upper frame member and a lower frame member. One of a pair of cutting blades is attached to a front of the upper frame member and a remainder of the pair of cutting blades is attached to a front of the lower frame member so that a cutting edge of each of the pair of cutting blades are in alignment and face each other. According to certain preferred embodiments, the device is disposable. According to certain other preferred embodiments each of the pair of cutting blades can be replaced with a new replacement blade assembly. Various embodiments are shown sufficient to illustrate a portion of the versatility and benefits that are possible including the use of plastic to form the frame member, steel or other suitable material to form the pair of cutting blades, low manufacturing cost, lightweight, offering of the apparatus in different styles and colors, it use for advertising, and less likely to be detected by airport security personnel.

An apparatus for cutting toe nails and finger nails includes a plastic frame member. The frame member includes an upper frame member and a lower frame member. The upper and lower frame members are either attached together at a rear thereof or they are formed as a continuous component that generally includes a V-shape or a U-shape at the rear. One of a pair of cutting blades is attached to a front of the upper frame member and a remainder of the pair of cutting blades is attached to a front of the lower frame member so that a cutting edge of each of the pair of cutting blades will be in alignment and face each other. According to certain preferred embodiments, the device is disposable. According to certain other preferred embodiments each of the pair of cutting blades can be replaced with a new replacement blade assembly. A safety bumper prevents injury and provides a means for controlling the finished length of the nail. Various embodiments are shown sufficient to illustrate the benefits of having the plastic frame member align and support the disclosed novel steel blades which are considerably smaller, lighter, and less expensive to manufacture than the steel blades of prior opposing, non-overlapping blade types of nail clippers.

An apparatus for cutting toenails and fingernails includes a sleeve that extends over a pair of blades that are each attached to a first end of a first and second member, respectively. The first and second members are attached at an opposite second end thereof and provide a spring action intermediate the first and second members sufficient to urge the blades away from each other. A lever is attached to the sleeve proximate the first end of the first and second members and is adapted to pivot about an axis to urge the first end of the first and second members towards each other for cutting nails.
