A socket joint for carrying a mirror head or indirect vision system on a support tube to be mounted to a vehicle and a mirror or indirect vision arrangement comprising such socket joint and a mirror head or indirect vision system is provided. The socket joint comprises a support tube with at least one opening to be attached to a vehicle, a joint base contacting the support tube, at least one anchor extending through said at least one opening in said support tube, and at least one fastener engaging the at least one anchor and extending through a fastening hole in the joint base into the anchor. By the engagement of the fastener in or with the anchor, the portion of the anchor located within the support tube engages an interior surface of said support tube and said support tube is clamped between anchor and joint base.

Mirror mounting assembly

An exterior vehicle mirror assembly including an housing with a mirror glass disposed in the housing. A glass clamp connects the mirror glass and the housing. The glass clamp is slidably carried on both the mirror glass and the housing for moving between a locked position in which the glass clamp secures the mirror glass to the housing in a friction fit arrangement to resist movement of the mirror glass in the housing, and an unlocked position in which the clamp is free to be removed from the housing and mirror glass.

A socket joint for a mirror assembly having a first concave portion receiving a support tube that attaches to the vehicle. A pair of anchors disposed in the first concave portion extend through openings in the support tube. The anchors project outwardly from the first concave portion into the support tube. Each anchor engages an interior surface of the support tube. A fastener engages each anchor from a front side of the socket joint to clamp the support tube between the anchor and first concave portion. A central connecting post extends outward from the front side of the socket joint for cooperating with various assembly components to pivotally mount a mirror head. A second concave portion is disposed around the central connecting post which receives a complementary convex portion of the mirror head housing so that the housing can pivot on the second concave portion around the central connecting post.
