A drug delivery device () includes a delivery unit, an electronic control system and a plunger sensing system (). The delivery unit () includes a drug container () comprising a barrel portion (a) and a plunger () slidably mounted within the barrel portion and sealing against an inner surface of the barrel portion (a) for containing a liquid drug () within the drug container. The plunger sensing system () includes an optical sensor () with a transmitter (a) and a receiver (b), the transmitter configured for transmitting an optical signal to a back end () of the plunger () and the receiver configured to receive the optical signal reflected off the plunger back end (). The plunger sensing system is connected to the electronic control system () configured to measure a time of flight of the optical signal from the transmitter to the receiver and to determine therefrom a position of the plunger within the cylinder portion of the drug container.

Drug delivery device

A drug delivery device () having a delivery unit () including a drug container (), a liquid flow system (), a pumping system (), and a casing () enclosing therein the drug container, the pumping system and at least a part of the liquid flow system is disclosed. The drug container has a barrel portion (a) and a plunger () slidably mounted within the barrel portion and sealing the drug () within the container at one end of the barrel portion. The drug container is contained within a container receiving cavity () of a container casing portion () and the container receiving cavity is fluidically interconnected to a fluid outlet () of the pumping system () in a gas tight manner. The pumping system pumps environmental air into the container receiving cavity () thus applying pressure on a back end () of the plunger for delivery of a liquid drug.

A micropump including: a stator (); a rotor () slidably and rotatably mounted at least partially in the stator, the rotor comprising a first axial extension () having a first diameter (D) and a second axial extension () having a second diameter (D) greater than the first diameter; a first valve (V) formed by a first valve seal () mounted on the stator around the first axial extension, in conjunction with a first channel () in the rotor that is configured to allow liquid communication across the first valve seal when the first valve is in an open position; a second valve (V) formed by a second valve seal () mounted on the stator around the second axial extension, in conjunction with a second channel () in the rotor that is configured to allow liquid communication across the second valve seal when the second valve is in an open position; a pump chamber () formed between the rotor and stator and between the first valve seal and second valve seal, and a cam system comprising a cam track (') on one of the rotor or stator and a cam follower (&#x2032;) on the other of the rotor or stator for axially displacing the rotor relative to the stator as a function of the rotation of the rotor, the cam track comprising a valves-closed chamber-full section (), a valves-closed chamber-empty section (), an intake section () and an expel section (). The expel section comprises an expel hold position () defining an intermediate axial position between the valves-closed chamber-full section and valves-closed chamber-empty section for partial delivery of a pump cycle volume during the expel phase.

Micropump with cam mechanism for axial displacement of rotor

A pump () comprising a stator () and a rotor () axially and rotatably movable relative to the stator, the stator comprising a rotor shaft receiving cavity (), an inlet () and an outlet () fluidly connected to the rotor shaft receiving cavity (), the rotor comprising a shaft () received in the rotor shaft receiving cavity (). The rotor shaft () comprises a cavity () receiving a piston portion () of the stator therein to form a piston chamber (), a seal () mounted between the piston portion () and inner sidewall of the cavity () to sealingly close an end of the piston chamber (). The rotor further comprises a port () fluidly connecting the piston chamber () to an outer surface () of the rotor shaft (), the port () arranged to overlap at least partially the inlet () over a rotational angle &#x3b1; of the rotor corresponding to a pump intake phase, and arranged to overlap at least partially the outlet () over a rotational angle &#x3b2; of the rotor corresponding to a pump expel phase.

Micropump

A pump includes: a stator (), a rotor () slidably and rotatably mounted at least partially in the stator, the rotor comprising a first axial extension () having a first diameter (D) and a second axial extension () having a second diameter (D) greater than the first diameter, a first valve (V) formed by a first valve seal () mounted on the stator around the first axial extension, in conjunction with a first channel () in the rotor that is configured to allow liquid communication across the first valve seal when the first valve is in an open position, a second valve (V) formed by a second valve seal () mounted on the stator around the second axial extension, in conjunction with a second channel () in the rotor that is configured to allow liquid communication across the second valve seal when the second valve is in an open position; a pump chamber () formed between the rotor () and stator () and between the first valve seal () and second valve seal (); and a pump chamber seal () circumscribing the rotor second axial extension and separating the pump chamber () from an external environment. The stator () further comprises a dead-zone seal section () surrounding a dead-zone volume () formed between the rotor second axial extension () and the stator (), wherein the dead-zone seal section () comprises axially extending portions () connected to upper and lower radial portions (') to form a closed sealing circuit.

A pump including: The pump further comprises a priming actuator () mounted on a housing of the stator and movable from a locked operating position to a priming position, the priming actuator () configured to engage and axially displace the rotor from an operating position in which at least one of the first and second valves is closed, to a priming position in which both first and second valves are open.

The invention relates to a liquid storage and delivery system including a reusable housing () comprising a control and drive unit, a container (), a pump module () fluidically connected to the container (), and a coupling system () configured for removably coupling the pump module () to the control and drive unit (). The pump module comprises a pump engine (), a pump outlet (), and a transmission input coupling () coupled to the pump engine (). The housing comprising the control and drive unit also comprises a pump drive () configured to engage the transmission input coupling () of the pump module () when the pump module () is coupled to the housing comprising the control and drive unit. The container () is in the form of a flexible pouch and the pump module () is permanently integrated with the flexible pouch and forms therewith a disposable unit.

Liquid storage and delivery system

A manually energized dispensing system containing a dispensing head () which has a housing (), a nozzle, a pump () mounted in the housing, and a pump actuation mechanism () is provided. The pump has a pump rotor () and a stator (). The pump rotor has two axial extensions () of different diameters, mounted in corresponding chambers () of the stator, and first and second seals () mounted in the stator housing and surrounding the first and second axial rotor extensions. The rotor extensions comprising liquid supply channels (), in conjunction with the seals operate as valves that open and close communication between an inlet of the pump connected to the inside of a container () and the pump chambers, respectively. The pump chambers are operated as a function of the angular displacement of the pump rotor.
