The present invention provides dual wavelength imaging compositions, processes for forming dual wavelength imaging compositions, methods for forming images using dual wavelength imaging compositions and substrate (e.g., paper web) treated (e.g., coated) on one or both sides with dual wavelength imaging compositions. Also provided is a dual wavelength imaging particulate comprising a matrix of polymer material and containing: one or more image-forming agents; a photo-oxidizing agent which is activated at a first wavelength of light to cause the one or more image-forming agents to form one or more images; and a reducing agent which is activated at a second wavelength of light to cause termination of the formation of the one or more images.

The invention detailed herein comprises a family of radiation-curable coating formulations specifically for metal substrates. These coating formulations are based on multifunctional acrylate resins formed by the reaction of acrylate monomers and oligomers with &#xff;-keto esters (e.g., acetoacetates), &#xff;-diketones (e.g., 2, 4-pentanedione), &#xff;-keto amides (e.g., acetoacetanilide, acetoacetamide), and/or other &#xff;-dicarbonyl compounds that can participate in the Michael addition reaction. An essential novelty of these coating resins is that they will cure under standard UV-cure conditions without the addition of traditional photoinitiators. Other materials, both reactive (conventional acrylates) and non-reactive (e.g., solvents) may also be incorporated into the resin oligomers to enhance the coatings properties on metal substrates. These materials include a variety of acrylic monomers and oligomers, primary, secondary and tertiary amines, acid-functional monomers and oligomers, silicones, waxes and elastomers, among others. Coatings based on these novel multifunctional acrylate resins exhibit excellent adhesion and shrinkage control, flexibility, solvent resistance, scratch and mar resistance, impact resistance, color, and durability across a wide range of plastic materials. These coatings may be cured via chemical means, thermally, or by exposure to UV or electron beam radiation.

Selectively colorable polymerizable compositions and a method for forming selectively colored polymeric bodies using such compositions are disclosed. In accordance with the invention, a selectively colorable polymerizable composition comprising both a leucobase color former and a leuconitrile color former is irradiated with light of a particular wavelength and specific intensity for a specified duration. Exposure to actinic radiation cures the composition and activates the color formers. The irradiation dosage can be varied to selectively color the polymeric body whereby the resultant color of any particular area depends on the exposure dose received at that location. By varying the dose, a polymeric body can be prepared having distinctly colored elements at specific locations.
