A driving assistance method for a motor vehicle () when approaching a speed bump comprises, according to the invention: detecting and tracking at least one other moving vehicle () in front of the motor vehicle () based on processing images captured by a camera () on board the motor vehicle (); establishing a temporal profile of the estimated distance between the motor vehicle () and the at least one detected and followed other moving vehicle (); detecting an anomaly area in the temporal profile; and estimating a distance dbetween the motor vehicle () and a speed bump () on the basis of the estimated distance between the motor vehicle () and the at least one other vehicle () at a time separate from the times corresponding to the detected anomaly area.

Assisting the driving of an automotive vehicle when approaching a speed breaker

A method and corresponding apparatus involve monitoring, by a first motor vehicle, a position of a second motor vehicle in an adjacent lane and performing an automated safety routine. The safety routine includes determining, based on sensor data, whether the vehicles are maintaining a same speed and determining whether the first motor vehicle can switch to the adjacent lane without colliding with the second motor vehicle. If the vehicles are maintaining the same speed and the first motor vehicle cannot switch to the adjacent lane, a longitudinal offset is set based on the sensor data and established by automatically decreasing the speed of the first motor vehicle. The speed of the first motor vehicle is automatically adjusted to maintain at least the longitudinal offset until the first motor vehicle can switch to the adjacent lane without colliding with the second motor vehicle.

Proactive safe driving for an automated vehicle

An apparatus and corresponding methods for detecting a tailgating situation involving a second motor vehicle behind an automated vehicle, and performing an automated safety routine in response to the detected tailgating situation. The tailgating situation is detected based on a simultaneous occurrence of two or more conditions involving an estimated time to collision, lateral offsets of both vehicles with respect to a center of a lane, activation of a turn signal blinker of the second motor vehicle, or flashing of a headlamp of the second motor vehicle. The safety routine includes performing a lane change to an adjacent lane. When no adjacent lanes are available for a lane change, a maximum permissible deceleration rate is decreased while increasing a time gap between the automated vehicle and a third motor vehicle directly in front of the automated vehicle by automatically adjusting an amount of at least one of acceleration or braking.

Tailgating situation handling by an automated driving vehicle

Methods, apparatuses, and computer-readable media are presented for providing a mixed-reality scene involving a lead vehicle and a following vehicle. The system may present a sequence of mixed-reality images to a driver of the following vehicle, resulting from merging (a) an image captured by a camera aboard the lead vehicle and (b) an image captured by a camera aboard the following vehicle, to generate a merged image. The system may discontinue or diminish mixed-reality content of the sequence of mixed-reality images in response to one or more detected conditions, which may comprise detection of an object between the lead vehicle and the following vehicle.
