A fire protection system includes a first transceiver communicatively coupled with a first end of a communication link; a second transceiver communicatively coupled with a second end of the communication link and configured for communicating a signal with the first transceiver via the communication link; a first coupling/decoupling circuit configured to provide overlayed power by overlaying power from a first power source onto the signal at the first end of the communication link; and a second coupling/decoupling circuit configured to provide separated power by separating the signal from the overlayed power at the second end of the communication link, wherein the separated power is configured to power the second transceiver.

A method and system for improving the intelligibility of an audio signal emitted from plural audio output devices in a space can help mitigate systems that have low intelligibility at installation due to reverberation effects; it can provide a quick post installation check of a system prior to a full-fledged STIPA (Speech Transmission Index for Public Address Systems) or equivalent test; and it allows for a quick verification if changes to the acoustical environment are expected to have major effects on STIPA tests.

Characterization of reverberation of audible spaces

A fire detection system may include isolation circuit having an isolation switch coupled with a system line of the fire detection system and configured to isolate a first side of the system line from a second side of the system line. The isolation circuit may also include a controller coupled with the isolation switch. The controller may be configured to detect repetitive, intermittent short circuit activity on the system line and control the isolation switch based on this activity.

The first detection system may include isolation circuit having an isolation switch coupled with a system line of the fire detection system and configured to isolate a first side of the system line from a second side of the system line. The controller may be configured to detect a short circuit on the system line and control the isolation switch based on a calculated impedance on the system line in response to detecting the short circuit.

A computer device for configuring an alarm system comprises at least one sound measuring device and a processor configured to receive from the sound measuring device an ambient noise level at a plurality of measuring locations in a building, determine for each of the plurality of the measuring locations, a target alert sound level of an alert generated by at least one of a plurality of alerting devices based at least in part on the ambient noise level at the respective measuring location, receive an actual sound output value of the alert at each of the plurality of measuring locations from one or more of the plurality of alerting devices, and adjust a sound output of each of the plurality of alerting devices by an adjustment value based on the actual sound output values and the target alert sound levels.

Method and system for configuring an alarm system

A backup battery charging system for a building management system is disclosed. Components of the charging system include an analog power converter, a voltage feedback loop and a current feedback loop. The feedback loops each include at least one digital resistor. The system panel, in turn, includes at least one microcontroller that controls the building management system and also controls the charging system. The charging system is 'software defined,' in that the microcontroller controls the charging system by updating the digital resistors in the feedback loops to control the analog power converter. In one example, the building management system is a fire alarm system controlled by a fire control panel as the system panel.
